  • Which Ak?

    Hello

I am looking to get a new gun, preferably a Ak of some sort, i prefer the look of the ak74. I was just wondering whether anyone has any suggestion to what gun to go for? i am looking to spend around £250-300, would it be better to get a cheaper gun with nice external etc and then upgrade the internals, as i plan to upgrade the gun if it is needed anyway?

I like the look of the g&g gk74 would this be a good gun to go for or is there a better option?

    thanks

    Re: Which Ak?

Personally, I'd be tempted to push your budget to the top end, and look for a second hand TM recoil one on here, there's been a few bargains about and with that, you are looking at about as good as it gets in the out of the box market.
"This is my rifle, it's just a toy one, there are many like it, they're toy ones too, without it, i'm £250 better off, without me, it gathers dust in the corner, we're just big boys playing soldiers, lets try and remember that" play fair have fun.

Steve does make a good point, as a recoil AK owner I can't recommend it enough. However I've seen some cracking reviews and video gameplay of the GK74, I don't think you'd be let down by it if that's the way you wanted to go.

If you wanted space in your budget for all those little things like mags and vests and skirmishing, The Cyma AKMs are outstanding for the price. I had one and was very sad to let it go.

        Re: Which Ak?

        Hey buddy.

I've personally owned a G&G GK74 and honestly I didn't like it. Sure the performance and rate of fire was great, and the sound the EBB made was satisfying, but I found the external quality lacking, and the battery handguards mean the handguard itself has to be alot thicker, making it actually quite uncomfortable to hold. The fit of the battery handguard itself also wasn't that great...was a bit of play in it. I like my AK's to be solid and authentic so it just wasn't for me.

Sure, the TM recoil AKs are probably worse as external quality goes, but I would still go for one of those as the blowback is just SO satisfying, and the performance is excellent to boot.

However, if you're wanting new for your budget, I would hunt around for an LCT. Definately won't fail to satisfy your AK craving haha. The Cyma .048 range is also excellent.

On that note, I've yet to own a "duff" Cyma gun, in my experience they're always good..

              Hello
Thanks for the quick replies, some really good suggestions. What sort of price would I be looking at for a marui recoil ak?
I like the look of the lct ak's and the g&g gk74, but would I get a better gun, both internally and externally, if I brought a cheaper model like the cyma, nd did a fair few upgrades?

If I was to go for a lct ak, are there any recommended upgrades, and to take a lipo?

              Thanks

Pretty sure there's a Real Sword Type 56 on the classifieds for £270 with two mid-caps.

The good Cymas are often a little hot new. You may get lucky as I did and have the usual bedding in of the spring settle at just under 350, but talking with other folk who've had them you may need to be braced for a spring downgrade. apart from that, they are pretty belting in terms of range and accuracy. I did end up dropping in a TB and a Firefly for a very marginal improvement. I'd not touch the gearbox, they are solid.

My recoil I imported when the pound was really strong against the dollar back in early September, so the price I got it for wouldn't be as good now. Buying in the UK you are looking at around £550 new with one hicap. I can't tell you how much of a great gun a recoil is, and being TM they achieve this performance at sub 300 fps, so you can play it at CQB sites and choose which finger you are going to shoot of the hand resting on the balcony rail above you you are going to hit (sorry random Mall player, but you were shooting my team). If your budget stretches, it is airsoft sorted for you, no more faffing about with upgrades and nonsense.

                      Re: Which Ak?

If you want to go the whole hog go for a GHK GBB AK. LCT externals and about the best GBB rifle you can get. I now have 3!!

I do have Cyma AK74 aeg with real wood stock, they are very good and the best value for money. Mine will be up for sale for £140 posted and paypaled with a battery and a couple of hi caps. I can do 10 real caps for an extra £30.

Do take a look at the GHKs!

                      Hope this helps.

RS for feel and internals no plastic at all, but remember you need to buy a side rail and fit it for optics.

Sounds great, is the real sword worth the extra money over the lct, I was really looking to buy new as I have had problems before with used. I was looking to get a ak with a folding skeleton stock.

Are there any upgrades that would be recommended to do to lct and real sword aks

                              Re: Which Ak?

Do you want a Russian spec' AK? If so, forget Realsword. Nice as they are, they are Chinese AK's.

Don't overlook E&L (noone has mentioned them for some reason!). They are VERY nice and, come with lots of upgrades as standard (lightened piston, vented piston head, tightbore, etc,). They're also made of steel where they should be and, are real steel dimensions, so you could fit real parts if you wanted to, such as stocks, RIS and flash hiders. Mine shoots silky smooth and like a laser and, it's totally stock - one of the very few guns that I have never needed to upgrade, because it's so good from stock. You can get them new for less than £250 if you shop around and, from within the EU (so you can avoid import duty).

You've got lots of choice when it comes to AK74's. I personally have CYMA, E&L, LCT and VFC versions and, all of them are very good in their own ways. I have had versions made by G&G, Dboys and Classic Army too. I've been tempted by the Marui recoil one but, the idea of buying proprietary magazines and fiddly batteries has put me off. With my existing collection, all of my mag's and batteries work in all of my guns - something worth bearing in mind when factoring in your budget.
