  • Refund Wanted

Hi all, new here so unsure what to do just want alittle advice

Recently sold a PDW to a guy , seemed straight forward, quick payment good communication. he asked a a lot of questions the usual Fps stuff and then Ie: how do I use these mags they arn't the same as mine? if the peq box was the battery? if he needed to cok the gun before firing? seemed alittle unsure about the basics?
I happily answered all questions, even offered to take more pics, videos or even Skype the gun. he said all was fine so we progressed through the deal.

So it is delivered to him on Wednesday morning, he opens it messages me saying gun is great , don't have message anymore but he said it was good , even left good feedback for me. so all is well until now I receive a message stating that he cannot get the gun to fire, is there a problem with the battery.

I tell him to try the battery I sent on one of his other guns , he replies battery is fully charged and that he has tried another of his batteries on my gun and still nothing. this is strange because this has been a business gun worked perfectly , and been in storage. Was working before postage.

We go back and forth, I tell him to send me a video of the gun, and if possible to Skype me so I can help him out,
ask him to check that the wires are connected to the motor, he says he has no idea how, I ask him to check fuse is intact, again, doesn't know how.
Give him a link to youtube video describing in detail how to check fuse and motor. I again offer to Skype him to help guide him through what I believe to be a very basic check, and possible solution.
I offer more solutions saying maybe where your trying to jam mags in wrong you have caught the wiring? he says its abit chewed up? was perfect before?

I tell him if he would like im happy for him to take it to his gunsmith and I would cover the cost of the new fuse if that was the problem. he refuses and now asks for the refund I am an honest person, and originally said I would be happy to refund should there be a problem with this gun that was my fault.

however the more I think about this , the more I wonder what to do, I know it worked and am now looking at loosing my money and my gun?

The gun worked was in good condition and I have tried to offer solution after solution only for him to refuse them, he seemed like an amateur and im wondering if he has infact damaged the gun himself? I have offered to even have it looked over by his gunsmith and if the fault is mine I will pay or refund. again refused.

Should I refund , should I partial refund or should I gracefully decline?
we are still in contact, and we are both civil , at the moment

    Any help much appreciated

    Re: Refund Wanted

It's always a tough decision when you're uncertain of a buyer's technical knowledge, but it's quite obvious that he's not 100% on the fundamental basics. It's perfectly acceptable that he may have damaged the weapon through sheer ignorance, and is still oblivious to the damage.

Regardless, that outcome should only ever be one of four things...

    1. Weapon is returned and you refund the full amount.

    2. Partial refund - as per your offer to get a quote from an airtech.

    3. He accepts the 'you break it you pay' rule.

    4. He returns the weapon for you to inspect and if needed repair for the cost of any parts damaged by the buyer.

You seem to be doing everything possible for him Lewis, what does he actually expect you to do ?
"This is my rifle, it's just a toy one, there are many like it, they're toy ones too, without it, i'm £250 better off, without me, it gathers dust in the corner, we're just big boys playing soldiers, lets try and remember that" play fair have fun.

        Re: Refund Wanted

I'm guessing either it has been damaged in transit or he has broken it his end and now is wanting the refund.

I guess i feel for the guy, having recieved broken guns before I know how it can feel, But on the other hand, if it was him that broke it then I don't really feel it my place to have to suffer his lack of knowledge and have to repair and resell what was a perfect AEG before it was sent.
but how can you know, I guess his lack of wanting to allow me or a gunsmith to help (says there isn't one at his site) makes me feel he may have something to hide.
        tough situation

          Re: Refund Wanted

The fact he stated "gun is great" means it reached him in satisfactory condition so I wouldn't feel obliged to offer a refund.
          Where is his local site?

I agree with Wolf, I’ve just had a look at his profile and he is selling AEG’s so he knows what he is doing as far as I’m concerned and should be able to operate an AEG. If he has been happy with the gun he can’t then change his mind for refund purposes due to his own incompetence.

              Re: Refund Wanted

thanks all, have made me feel, a little better about my decision, I think I will offer for him to take it to his gunsmith again , other then that I have done all I can with him
I shall prepare for the hate messages now.
yeah I saw he was selling off his other stuff to, another reason I assumed he was happy with the gun I had sent.

As for local site I really need to start saving my messages, im abit of a neat freak and don't horde them. I would have just thought there would be someone who would have a general ideal or be able to help at any site, you all seem to know your stuff I certainly know if someone asked me at my site i could give them advice and even check the basics for them, and yet he seems unwilling

anyway thanks all , big help

I would probably not have sold an aeg to someone who is clearly out of his depth, and I certainly would not buy anything off him, the kind of questions asked would have got my alarm bells ringing, personally I would wipe my hands with the deal and let him get on with it, he broke it, and that's his problem if he cant fix it

Guy seems like an ass. I would not refund, seems like he broke it himself somehow and blaming you.

Yeah I guess being new here doesn't help I wasn't sure what to look for really, will see it as a lesson learnt and make sure I sell to someone who seems a more experienced, will also be saving messages and making in depth videos documenting guns next tim thanks

I do that now as standard. One trick that works on certain guns is to paint gearbox screws and the like with acrylic paint, they complain it arrives back and the paint its marked or gone. Proof they have opened the box or done something else.

I always take high quality images with a DSLR Macro Lens & 1080p videos of the internals and firing, just in case.

Basically just echoing what has been said. He already accepted it and it was 'great', he then changed his mind when HE ran into an issue. You are under no legal obligation to refund/fix this for him unless he proves it was faulty before he got it, baring in mind this is a private, second hand sale.

Just a quick point, how long was it between the buyer sending a message saying the gun is great and then saying it won't fire ? Certainly sounds to me like he's changed his mind and wants his money back or either he / someone else has knackered something. I got into a similar situation about a year ago now. He admitted his local 'Airsoft tech' had opened the gearbox and as soon as that came up he wasn't getting a refund.

Don't refund, sound like he's cocked it up, either by accident or on purpose in order to claim the refund, possibly due to spending money he shouldn't have, seriously, someone tried it on me.
