Why, what's it not doing very well?
That's the question you need to ask yourself before deciding if it needs upgrading

Re: Upgrading a CYMA CM.028U AK Tactical
Not sure what CYMA are like these days but they used to come gunked up with grease, so clean the barrel, possibly re-grease the gears, put it back together and see how it goes. Other than replacing the standard hop rubber you may well be good to go after that! Worth checking the FPS in case you need to downgrade the spring.
As for a battery, personally I'd go with a 7.4v Lipo

if you're planning on using it as an upgrade platform, personally, i wouldn't open it, send it back an get an 04 series ak (unless the tactical types are named differently), the internals (and externals) will be much better

Re: Upgrading a CYMA CM.028U AK Tactical
I had one of these. Was fantastic. Possibly one of the best shooters for the pound there is. fps is a bit of a lottery. I was lucky and had mine come in under 350 after shooting a couple of mags through. Others report theirs being hot as balls. Worth being ready to downgrade the spring. Mine would hop .28s in the summer. Only aeg ive had that out performed it was a recoil.
Genuinely would recommend doing as little as possible. The only work i had to do was swap out the hop rubber. It started to do a wierd thing of drying up, and would need a tiny squirt of silicone every 1000 bbs. Swapped it with a firefly and never looked back. Sold it to fund other things, but wish id kept it as a reliable backup really.

awesome so sounds like it was a decent purchase then :D got it super cheap so well happy with that will keep an eye out on the hop and i have an old m110 spring that i could always fire in if i need to but hopefully it wont be too hot i have heard as you said that sometimes they can come in at 400fps.
