  • Best MP5 as of 2015?

There are a lot of threads on this topic but in the last few years there have been a few additions to the market. I'm looking for an MP5 is this configuration:

Normal handguard, small flash hider, no ugly rails, Navy selector not SEF, collapsible stock preferred, burst mode optional but a bonus.

I was going to get a G&G TGM A4 RTB with the Lipos moulded into the handguard, but it seems even the Gen 2 versions have problems and no retailer will sell them.

Can't do PTW due to OTT price and don't want TM due to plastic receiver. It seems the options are:

ICS MX5 Pro A5 - supposedly really good externals, electronic burst mode, fancy split gearbox, but fugly hand guard that would need to be replaced.

G&G TGM standard - nice EBB function, rear-wired so solid stock only. Front-wired A5 version would need both foregrip and stock replacing.

CA MP5A5 - don't really know too much about this one except it appeared in previous "best MP5?" threads

VFC MP5A5 - mechanical burst mode, either settle for rear-wired A4 stock or replace A5 foregrip.

Speaking of which, what batteries can fit inside a standard MP5 foregrip without deforming it?

Out of those is there any one that has a significant advantage in terms of range & accuracy? Or is there one that is definitely below the others and can be discounted?

One you've overlooked, is the cyma blowback. For cost vs what you get, it beats all the above options. But do t buy in the UK.

3rd burst I'd suggest just bursting full auto. It's quicker to access, and means less to go wrong with your gun.

You can get the cyma blowbacks in the exact config you posted above.

I'm under the impression that VFC's is the nicest-made. The one you want is the MP5A5 Asia Edition, which has a stamped steel upper receiver, all the trademarks, and the slither stock and slimline handguard that you want.

Re: Best MP5 as of 2015?

A friend of mine had the ics mx5 pro within months of it being released and it was a complete dog. The fire selector was sloppy, didn't even turn in a circular fashion it was sort of lop sided and felt like it was going to come off in your hand.

The burst mode was junk and stopped working properly after 3 or 4 Sunday's, no amount of messing with the screw would fix it. And lastly the thing would randomly die on him with no explanation at all. I looked at it, couldn't work it out, Z1 looked at it at the weekender, couldn't work it out. Went off for repair, a month later and about £50 down it was fixed... no it wasn't, after 2 or 3 games the problem returned. I said he should send it back but he was so fed up of the thing he sold it broken just to see the back of it. Me and my 4 mates have been airsofting for 10 years together and it was by far and away the worst gun any of us have ever ever owned. Now his basic ICS mp5 (full stock, metal upper and sef grip) has been a solid reliable work horse for years.

Maybe the mx5 pro was a lemon, perhaps it was because it was a first batch model, no one will ever know, none of us would ever touch it again though.

The CA B&Ts were always regarded as the best all rounders but finding CAs these days is no easy thing

G&G is the all rouns best option, very well built, accurate good rof and good trigger response.

I got a TM and then swapped the body for a metal Cyma one so you get the best of both worlds as none of these are as good as a TM internally (not sure about the new ICS pro's actually) and then you get to keep nice internals.

You should buy a TM anyway. They're just that good.

Ever held one with a metal body? Mine is as solid as a rock, literally zero wobble even if you shake the rifle-although I have done some mods to 'tighten' everything up a bit.

Re: Best MP5 as of 2015?

the ics version with the burst, was an absolute dream to work on, but god dam, the selector was so mushy. It did however, (with a few upgrades) fire like an absolute gem, the hop up is also designed extremely well, which is cool. However, if you don't do the work on the guns your self then it doesnt really matter, there are also quite a few proprietary parts inside this g.b, which makes you wonder about if you had it for 5 years, will it still be supported?
the vfc has the burst function - no split gb so not as easy to work on, but has a mechanical, not electronic burst i beleive both are stamped steel bodies.
the CA one (B&T), which I had about 7 years ago... also very nice
cyma one, never had, but if it is anything like their aks - just buy it

I wouldn't (personaly) worry about the burst too much, imo its like the quick spring change feature, its cool in theory, but in reality it doesnt make much difference whatsoever. I would probably suggest to get the cyma for exmple, and install a burst mosfet.

Thanks everyone, went for the VFC Asia Edition. Reasons being that it requires no external modification and that it's rear-wired but the battery goes down the top like in an MP5K.
