Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
10 September, 2015, 19:48
Hi all, I'm new to the forums and airsoft.
This Sunday I'm hopefully going to have my first go at airsoft and although I'd like to think I've done a bit of research (youtube ect), I was hoping for a bit of advice.
Maybe on etiquette, things I should/shouldn't do/try!!!.
It's outdoors in woodland and on a large site, I'm hiring rifle, bb's, safety equipment.
I know to try not to get hit but WHEN I do, call my hits (can't stand cheating).
Any advice gratefully received.

Dress for the weather. Anticipate rain and wrap up/pack accordingly.
Bring food and lots of fluids.
Wear boots if you have them as a twisted ankle is not much fun.
Introduce yourself to others and try to tag along - although this can be daunting.
If 'defending' - don't move, stay hidden and get up a good firing line of sight.
If 'attacking' - look for cover, then the next cover, and so on.
Never take off your eye protection.
Wear gloves.
Cover your ears if it is cold!
Have your car prepared and ready to accommodate an exhausted, muddy but happy cherry-popped airsofter.

Re: Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
Cheers mate....checked weather this morning and rain expected plus the sites on a hill so I'm off to get some boots (don't think steel toe cap work boots will be very comfy).
I'm going on my own so don't know anybody, I take it, 'tagging along' with people won't annoy them.
Never thought about gloves.... would any old cheap things do to start?

Re: Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
Get yourself a pair of black gloves - like Thinsulate ones to start off with. Most Pound Shops/Garages have them and matching black or olive Thinsulate hats. You want to be warm, and covered from both BB hits and hazardous foliage!
If you have camo, wear it, but if not, steer away from denim...wet denim isn't comfortable in woodland. If you want camo, you can get DPM at any army surplus shop for a few quid.
If you can, although they are £20 odd quid, SealSkinz socks are perfect for waterproofing feet. Having water-logged feet in airsoft is miserable stuff.
Tagging along shouldn't annoy anyone, and I doubt you will be the only 'newbie' there.

Re: Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
Very simply.
Never take off your eye pro.
Protect your face/teeth/ears. Even if it's with a snood etc. Don't want to lose a tooth on your first outing.
Wear a hat or cap. Head shots at close range can hurt.
Wear boots with ankle support. Steely's are fine if you can walk in them. (I started by using my works steely's)
Call your hits.
And be prepared to get hooked and end up spending way too much on this crazy game!!

Re: Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
Thanks for all the advice......
None of the info was too late as I had to pull out due to my 3yo ending up in hospital (recovering nicely). Just means I've got to wait 2 weeks to try again, but at least the new boots I ordered should be here by then.

Good point, I went to the site yesterday to meet a few regulars and help build a few things and there was plenty of insects around then.

Re: Upcoming 1st skirmish. Advice Needed!
The most important thing for airsoft (after ensuring that your family is fine before you go!) are -
- Safety
- Comfort
-Fun
Get those sorted and you'll love it.
