  • Ares or ICS L85 A2

Hi guy's, taken quite a liking to these and would like the most reliable, best performing with minimal upgrades needed out of the box.

I like the ares as the new internals look awesome however the take down procedure looks a bit labour intensive, just how bad is it to strip down? Also how do theynewer versions perform out of the box?

The ICS has some cool features too, the adjustable fps doesn't make much difference to me as it seems that the star would take about 2 mins to swap the spring out anyway, although changing hop rubbers/barrels etc looks alot less hassle as does removing the gearbox incase of piston failure etc.

Really struggeling to choose one of these!

What have been your experiences of these two aeg's?

i had an ares great gun buuuut i also have ics guns and the gearboxes on ics are easy to work on
(plus the star/ares l85 the fake bolt release always seems to get damaged and come off cosmetic only but still sucks)
      go with ics

ics, very solid gun, stock performance (well with an m100) is fantastic, easy to take down very simple to maintain 10/10

Having just bought myself the ICS L85A2 at the weekend, id say its rather good so far.

it was running a hot out the box, chronoing at over 400fps, but that was quick to sort out by adjusting the spring and clipping it a little.

ive yet to try it out in a game, but ive got one booked for next week so i'll have to let you know

and as above, stripping it down to sort the spring was very easy. dont even need tools to get it apart, push the pins out there you are.

              ARES.

              • Similar performance to the ICS by all accounts
              • Quick change spring
              • 'Awkward' full take-down but how often will you need to?...
              • More accurate in the looks/repro/finishing department.
              • Clamshell ICS foregrip? What a joke. Sure, it's 'convenient' but I'd rather have accurate form and function in my replicas.
              • The colour match and material of the rubber/plastic furniture is poor on the ICS too.
              • The finish on the ICS is way too matt/dull.

I've seen both ICS and ARES in person and am also a real steel user; the ICS looks like a cheap toy in comparison to the ARES.

              Up to you...

Can't answer for the ARES but the ICS is nice. On the other hand Pan knows what he is talking about when it comes to his SA80's. From personal experience though, I have no issues with the ICS

Be advised: the ARES is only four ounces short of the real steel weight, IIRC. A heavy, but realistic mofo.

Tbh. All of the SA80's are pretty close to real steel weight. None of them are particularly lightweight.

Thanks for the info/opinions guy's. I've ordered the ares! A few reasons swayed me. Can't wait to try it out.

I have an Ares L85 and am very pleased but there is a problem on the R setting, when the trigger is pushed very slowly the gun goes into full auto, does anyone know why this is and how it can be fixed (if necessary)
