First GBBR?
28 February, 2017, 08:49
Long and short I'm aware the new laws regarding the FPS switch up and such basically throws a HPA set up out but I plan on using this for Milsim events and events in general with limited ammo cap, however I would like a recommendation regarding a decent GBBR AK platform. One that is ideally not too expensive however I'd also like to know if i'd be wasting my time and if I'd just be better getting an AEG AK like an LCT and working on it till its a beast and sticking with low caps.

Re: First GBBR?
You want cheap, don't get a gbbr. The GHK is probably regarded as the best gas Ak. You're looking at £400+ and then another couple hundred for mags. If you're committed to one you'll love it. Otherwise buy an lct or E&L and buy mid/low caps

Also, think about what type of milsims you're doing. If they're the more firefight heavy type, get an AEG and run it with midcaps. If it's the 24hr patrol type, either will do.

Re: First GBBR?
The WE AK is actually very good and much cheaper. I had the GHK AK and it was good but not amazing, too much fiddling about filing down mag lips to make it feed and the hop unit was absolutely horrendous.
The WE on the other hand, worked 100% out the the box. Though are you set on an AK? If you can find one that hasnt been messed with the WE G36 is brilliant, I've had 3 in the past each one ran well through 20k rounds without issue or breakages. Plus very cheap.

Re: First GBBR?
As much as I like to shit all over WE for being notoriously unreliable pieces of junk that never work.... my WE G36 is a brilliant bit of kit that just works and keeps on working no matter how cold it gets or how much abuse I give it. So a hearty, respectful +1 for the WE G36. Cant say Ive ever used or even seen the WE GBB AK though.

Re: First GBBR?
Sorry but the we ak is not what you would call skirmish ready, yes the ghk AK requires modifying I.e the mag feed lips but the gas efficiency is absolutely terrific, my we ak on the other hand had quite possibly the worst gas efficiency out of all the rifles I've owned, this is partly due to the full stroke bolt(awesome by the way) but even with the half stroke kit WE make the mags are inferior, making cold weather games not possible. Plus there's no arguing LCT externals are far above anything WE have produced, with GHK you get what you pay for.

Re: First GBBR?
I have both,
WE AK is good but needs the following doing, RA tech trigger sets, hop and possible barrel. Dont havr any gas efficiency issues at all, run happily below 5c all day,
the GHK on the other hand is more reliable out if the box expect their hop is nothing but a pain, kick a lot less compare to we AK, dont see the gas efficiency is better then the WE

Efficiency on the we is worse, the travel of the bolt is almost twice the distance so thats just the way it is,from my experience the ghk has just been all round much better. If you do an efficiency test of both rifles how they come from the factory there will be a large gap.

I'm a 100% GBBRaholic, and I used to do events where we could easily cover 10-15 miles on foot patrol over the course of a weekend. You certainly notice the weight of 8 GBBR mags when you're lugging them around for those kind of distances, and even I was considering dusting off the old AEGs on more than a few occasions. If you're out on patrol for a good few hours as well, then after a couple of contacts you're going to need to gas up again so you've got the hassle of carrying around a few cans of gas as well. A couple of spare batteries for an AEG weigh bugger all compared to a couple of cans of Coleman's finest propane.

Re: First GBBR?
People all have different luck with gbbr's. I recently picked up a second hand we G36c and find it struggles to empty a mag in outside games with any sort of quick firing on semi. My scar H and MP5 on the other hand run like champs. 416c.. depends what mood it's in when I take it out of the case lol.

Re: First GBBR?
I had a WE M4 as my primary for 2 years and honestly loved it. Never upgraded any internals. Just repaired or replaced when something broke. I ended up making sure I had a couple of spare parts close to hand so if it went down, there was little inconvenience. GHK are certainly the better product, but WE I found was great value for money.

Re: First GBBR?
in regards to the ghk hop up , my ghk m4 hop needed sorting out too, dont know if its the same issue {probably is} but its an easy fix and very common, all it was with mine is the plastic hop arm has mouldings on the side which need smoothing off , they stop the arm from moving off the hop freely , so when you back the hop off the arm doesnt back off wth it , stays hopped up , plenty of guides out there on how to sort it .. that and mag leaks were the only problems iv had with mine , mag leaks were the bungs needing tightening after that its been great! , love the gun and its a totally dfferent feeling to the AEG ,
