Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
19 August, 2010, 23:17
Ok guys, forgive me if this is an old topic, or a stupid suggestion!
the other weekend made a helmet cam out of my russian hat, and an old camera phone wedged into the brim (dont laugh! it was a spur of the moment thought as i packed to leave!)
while fiddling with it, i realised i could use it as a cam to look round corners.
What are the general rules in airsoft on using snake cams/video cams/fibre optics/mirror stuck on a knife with chewing gum?

Re: Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
If you really want you can doo all that bar the knife unless its a rubber one, but what about fibre optic cams to sneak about or create perimeters ala gadget show escape and evasion episode you can watch that on youtube via 5 catch up

Re: Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
yeah thats what I was thinking. Isnt that the same as a snake cam? Ive just never heard or seen anyone using it, and I was thinking it might piss a lot of people off never giving them a chance to hit me before I go in at them sorta thing!
and obviously yeah with a rubber knife. dont wanna be sticking the real thing around corners blindly!

Re: Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
I reckon if you were a sniper or something then go with perimeter cameras you can buy they would be very cool to do with a few people in a sniper team
if you want to do like a james bond type thing and theres plenty of door breaching and sneaking go with snake cams, or fibre optic cams same thing!

Just use a cheap mirror for going round corners.

I'd be inclined to say no snake cams, as surely that leaves you sitting right behind a door waiting for the camera going in, so for a few seconds whilst you fiddle to get it in a position you can see from, someone might kick the door in into your face.

I carry a fold out mirror as part of my 'misc. but useful' gear. It allows me to look both beautiful and check round corners without getting shot. For something I picked up for nothing it is a rather clever little trick!

Ah so people do it then! might give this a little think then. As the killhouse at Xsite is giving me some problems with my gaming, and this could be the tactical advantage to get the job done!
Oh and andysmith there are no doors at our site, just open gaps in walls!

People use this stuff in real life and people still get shot... Ergo, use it all you like, but it's still not going to make you infallible.

True, but it's a lot safer than sticking my face round the corner. Small mirror investment it is then!

Re: Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
At the end of the day dude its up to the site owners/marshals what they allow or dont allow. IMO mirrors on sticks fine but fibre optics etc are too expensive to use and also if you use stuff like that expect people to be annoyed at you as its in the whole section that i like to call "That (several explietives later) cheating git!" IMO good on ya if you've had the sense to check first (my usual tactic is send in someone else first) but some people have no sportsmanship what so ever.
This Post may contain my opinions and if you disagree with them Tough S**T!

Re: Video Surveilance/tactical espionage?
Saw a wireless camera & screen combo used at The Mall a few months back so the guys could see when people were coming down the stairwell. Unfortunately they didn't see the guy coming down the stairwell and throwing a pyro through the door, which then subsequently landed next to the camera and blew it up. D'oh!
