  • New Player, AEG or Sniper?

    Hi all,

First of all, nice forums here, glad I was told about it.

I have just started Airsoft and am looking into getting my first gun. I am looking at getting a Ghillie suit and following that style of play. My question is though, as I go to a site that restricts its Single action Rifles to the same FPS as AEG's, would I be better off with some sort of semi auto AEG with good accuracy and a silencer etc. instead of a full on single shot sniper?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Welcome to the forums

I highly recommend an AEG first. Sniping isn't for everyone as many people will tell you.

      Welcome to zeroin! :D

Your best bet is an AEG, and upgrade it for range. (Tightbore barrel & good hopup!)

As your site keeps the FPS limits same for both, the advantage to having a sniper is very much reduced. Also sniping is not for everyone, and is much easier on computer games! If you get an AEG, then you have the best of both for the moment. You have the auto and semi, so you can change your style of play as you go. If you find you prefer sitting up away from the action slightly picking off targets, then go full sniper. If you actually find the running round fun, then you've not wasted your money.

Thanks for the replies, would anyone be able to reccomend me a good AEG that I can use for this purpose and one that can be upgraded well for accuracy and range? I am thinking of an ICS M4, would this be suitable?

        Many Thanks,

I highly recommend any Tokyo Marui gun. Don't forget you need to be UKARA registered before you can buy any guns that aren't two tone

ICS are a bit hit and miss. Z1 sing their prases because they are "affeliated" with them. I would recommend a JG or TM gun to start with, simply for reliablility. But, if you have a decent budget to go with, pickup a CA or G&P gun, and get a TM hopup rubber whilst you're there. Can't go wrong.

My first gun's a JG and it's stonking if you get the newer JG's.

There all much the same in reality, lol.

How much you looking to spend, and what kind of thing suits you? If your young or small some of the bigger guns might be a pain in the ass. Good starters in terms of size would be MP5, G36 or SA80.

Also if your willing to buy second hand, your money will go a LOT further.

My advice would be dont start with a bolt action sniper, because that limits you straight away. A huge ammount of airsofters want to be snipers at first, and a huge majoirty forget it after thier first skirmish. If you want to try sniping and your site limits your FPSs equally, get an AEG, my vote would be JG, cant beat em for starting guns, and upgrades id recommend would be a tightbore barrel and maybe a silencer you can run the tightbore through. As such, youll have the range and accuracy of any bolt action sniper there, and you still have the ability to try standard skirmishing

RD Customs MG42, The Bone Cannon And Project Balderdash.

If you aren't laughing, you're doing it wrong.

                    i would strongly recommend a SRC M4A1,
i bought one about a month ago and i love it. The price with battery and charger is about £150, so just above a less reliable gun like JG but well under the price of a TM. However i feel that the quality is just under that of a TM. Lots of people i know have had problems with JG but they might have just been unlucky.
                    SRC M4!! :D

Alright dude, as the guys have all said, an AEG is the way forward for your particular situation. Limiting it to semi only would be a complete waste also. Everybody will throw an opinion your way on the best makes and models out there but at the end of the day it is the weapon YOU want to use which is important. If your intending to become an AEG sniper at your site then you need to get the most out of the gun you choose, your limited by fps but with the right hop unit, rubber, bucking and tightbore barrel you can achieve perfomance at 330pfs than some semi-auto's i have seen only dream of. As a sniper your after concealment and im guessing accuracy at distance, the concealment i'll leave to you but accuracy at distance comes from length of barrel, longer the tightbore, greater accuracy at distance...(im sure someone will comment on that)..Now if your 6ft i would throw you a TM M14 and tell you to have the power increased to 330 and stick a TK twist or Promy barrel in it. If your not so tall then try maybe a bull-pup such as a TM or CA Aug, same barrel length but a third shorter overall..also comes with a 1.5x scope or top rail. Anything can be converted to what you want to use it for. I suggest you find something you want to use and have a word with a retailer such as ******* or Zero-one about power and barrels.

                      Enjoy your Airsoft...your wallet wont.

A good thing to do is speak to people when you go airsofting. Ask them about their guns, im sure most people loves talking about their guns and can go on for hours, (i know i can). If possible have a go on a few guns to see which you like the feel, weight and balance of. I started off with a stock TM AUG as it was light and quite small, as im about 5ft 8". I would not advise starting with a sniper, especially if the fps is the same as an aeg. Which make to buy depends on your budget. I have JG are good for the price but I have never owned one. G&P are a good make but they cost alot more than JG. Nearly anything you buy will be upgradeable so you can allways build on what you buy as your base.
TM AUG, STAR LSW, TM VSR-10, Hicappa 4.3

Erm, here we go again. As a new player, you're going to hear all sorts of rubbish. Here we have a classic example! You do NOT have to be UKARA registered to buy an airsoft weapon, but you do have to qualify for the specific defence. I'd suggest reading up on the VCRA, if you haven't done already, as this may restrict you on buying your AEG.

If your a rifleman that wants accuracy go for a

                            - JG or TM G3 and stick a tightbore and a good hop up / use polished 0.23g/0.25g

Stick a scope on it and you have got yourself a full auto sniper :D

                              don't fall into the trap!

Everyone would love to crawl around in a ghillie suit, but it really really isnt' for everyone.

Most new players do go for the sniper, but its really something for the veterans in my opinnion.

My advise is, go a fair few times and use a rental. Then buy a AEG, which? Well theres plenty of answers in 'picutres of you'r guns 'thread:D Then run around using an AEG, not only will you learn common tactics, you get to know your site better, which is great if you wana be a sniper.

Then when you'r well & truely convinced you want to go sniper, buy a JG bar

But obviously you can buy one whenever you want, but most people tend to
spend £150+ on a rifle, and use it once and then never pick it up again.
