      nothing.

i asked this question a while ago, and from what i was told, its the same. maybe very slight differences. but its all 20mm rails to me.

      Ris-rail interface system
      ras-rail accessory system.

        R.I.S -Rail Interface System
        R.A.S -Rail Accessory System.

Although these meanings differ they are both the same.....

It's just two different companies take on the same system. Both 20mm, usually the same style, different names for the sake of copyright most likely.

As everyone has said there's no practical differnce between RIS and RAS.
Generally speaking RAS is used by Knights Armament in the US to describe all their rails and other companies seem to use RIS.

I though it was "Rail Attachment System"?

Anyone know why they often have numbers running along the rails?

If you use a sight/laser sight and configure it to a set distance when you take it off the rail it allows you to put it back on at the same spot so it stays accurate...

They are basically the same thing, they just have different names and the numbering on the rails differ from RIS to RAS
