Where to go from here...
16 October, 2010, 12:01
Looking down the route of trigger response which way you be better to go, High torque or High speed motor? Not too worried about auto but semi, as the sites I play at are semi only. Will be running a 9.6v 2800mAh battery, standard ratio gears, M85 and a MOSFET. Cheers.

Re: Where to go from here....
Lipo is going to be the best way really, as they are much better at "starting up" than nihm batteries. You'll want one with a high burst rate.
You'll want a high speed motor in there

Re: Where to go from here....
I would've thought it was torque for snappiness of the trigger?

Isn't torque for pulling heavy springs though?
I'm probably very wrong though.... :p

Re: Where to go from here....
Well as far as I know, there are two types of motor (torque and speed), so let's take Systema's Offerings as an example.
The Systema Turbo has low torque, but high speed (RPM). That means that it will be able to give a gun a high rate of firing.
The Systema magnum has high torque and low (well actually, medium) speed. That means it will be able to give any gearbox fitted with up to an M170 spring a snappy trigger response.
I tested an Element Ultra Torque (copy of the Magnum) with an M85 spring and an 8.4v battery and the trigger response was fantastic.

Re: Where to go from here....
Well seems im going for the Element ultra torque. Will it be faster than a Turbo 3000 in auto? If so its a real bonus!

The rate of fire will almost definitely be better than the ICS 3000's. (Don't know why you chose that motor anyway!)
Edit -
On that video, he's using "The Ka fnfal have a guarder SP150 spring, and its running on a 11.1 3500 30C battery"

Re: Where to go from here...
For semi, high torque.
For those that don't know
Torque = Moment.
Moment= Force x Distance.
basically they're built to put a lot of force on a pivot at a distance. so the longer the distance and the more force the bigger the torque/moment! :D
So, this is fine for most guns, but semi auto is much improved.
I also believe that using this kind of motor on full auto too often can put significant strain on the motor (could be wrong, however)!
Excuse me, my physics A Level has finally become useful!

Would it increase with a set of 16:1 gears?

Re: Where to go from here...
not sure. intternals aren't my speciality.
I'm sure Gaffa know's however!
But theoretically, if you're making the distancing further, with the same (or more) applied force, you're gonna get a better semi- just may be a litttle straining on full :D
