  • Ghillie Suits

    Hey,

I am currently going for a sniper set-up and i'm curious...
    • Are ghillie suits any good?
    • Are they worth the money?
    • Any brand you recommend?
    • Any idea on the price and quality?

    Cheers.

      Re: Ghillie Suits

According to a mate of mine in the Marines - they are pretty much all using the webtex concealment vest these days.

have thought about getting one myself tbh.

other than that make one yourself - shop bought ones are usually pretty naff.

they can be very effective when coupled with good field-craft.

check out the sniper tactics thread linked in my sig.

edit - the jack pyke ones are shite and a rip off.

Agreed Macka, the webtex concealment vests are probably better, quite a bit cheaper and can fill with natural local foliage, makes it more effective.

the jack pyke ghillie suit seen above is not that great, its only really ideal for when you have alot of leaves arround on hte ground / same colour.

If your wearing it in full summer greenery your going to stick out really rather than blending in.

I would reccomend you make your own, can work out cheaper and work better.

          Youtube is your friend.

Personally all i use for sniping is a head and shoulders ghillie kit which works perfectly, has loops in it to stick gern and other veg in it.

Agreed jack pyke ghillie suits are naff. They don't really break up your outline (the basic idea of a ghillie suit). I got a shop/ internet bought one for about £50. They work well if you get natural foliage and stuff them, and if you stay still! This is one of the most important rules. Check out Lt Macka's sniping thread for general tips and tactics.

              Re: Ghillie Suits

i have a uk sniper systems one it has loops to attach natural foliage and as oppsoed to a wookie suit it consists on a head piece and a shoulder an back panel the idea is 90% of the time you are crouching or are laying prone so you dont need to camo your belly!
one life, nine hearts, and eighteen hands that will rip you all apart!

r.i.p #2 gone but never forgotten.

                Re: Ghillie Suits

When I used to snipe and run with a ghillie, I just made a ghillie cloak our of burlap. Essentially a large hood and a very wide cape, with a load of olive, brown and tan yarn stuck all over it. Cost less than a tenner to make and was very effective
