  • Lowering the fps with heavier BB's?

Hey guys and gals Quick question

If you buy a aeg with a fps of 370 fps can you not just use heavier grade ammo or do you have to downgrade the spring ?
I have heard rummors about the amount of Joules needs to be around one or somthing ????

can someone shed some light on this please as i am at a loss here.

    Cheers to all who reply

Your site will always chrono with 0.2s. So your gun should be within limits using that weight. If you somehow manage to use heavier bbs to evade the chrono, you'll likely get thrown off the site.

Find your site limits and downgrade your weapon.

I personally always buy M110 springs to use in my AEG's. People say that this (360fps ish) pushes my guns over the FPS limits, but once the hop is set, its more like 345-350 and then after a good number of rounds have been through to let the spring settle, 335 ish.

            But yeah as above.

The muzzle energy (the "Joules" thing) will be a certain value, usually, as you said, 1J.

                  0.2g @ 328 fps = roughly (a hair under) 1J
                  0.2g @ 350 fps (my local's absolute limit for AEGs) = 1.14J

                  0.2g @ 370 fps (your gun) = 1.27J

A 0.25g @ 331 fps = 1.27J - Lower speed, yes, but the actual energy is the same as the faster 0.2g BB, so the effect would be the same at the muzzle, which is where the limits count.

Get a velocity reducer, it's just like a flash hider, I'm sorry I don't knwo how it works but they're only about £12 on HK sites.

Actually I wouldn't do that, as they are prone to be tampered with, and don't work on full auto, and so many sites wont let you use them

Why can't people just stop coming up with stupid ideas and just abide by site limits. It aint that hard is it? lol.
