  • Recommend me a Li-Po Charger

    OK guys,

Basically looking to make the move to li-po (more forced because of my stupid wiring on my gb being too thick to rear wire and be li po ready)

Want a charger that I can plug in my li-po then basically leave it to its devices and come back later on to unplug.

Charger must be auto cut off and also do the balancing thing for me.

Basically if i can plug it in, push a button and come back an hour later and jobs done thats great.

Oh and keep the price down if you can.

    Cheers

Basically they're all the same charger internally, just in a different case and rebranded. Only thing I'd suggest is getting one with a UK power supply

They have the same button arrangement, although there are two models of Imax the real one and there is a clone too.

Re: Recommend me a Li-Po Charger

ImaxB6 is the exact same in function to the Turnigy Accucel 6.

After reading several reviews from RC hobby enthusiasts and watching youtube videos, I decided to go with the Turnigy as opposed to the cheaper Imax.

This was due to the T featuring a cooling fan, as well as several people reporting that the T has a better (in-built) balancer than the Imax. Better is defined as the cells voltage being more equally balanced than the same batteries being used with the Imax. However, the quality of the balancer shouldn't be of too much bother until you've charged your lipos more than 70 times or so.

Both chargers will show "Voltage - 4.20v and 4.20v" (balanced fully charged 7.4v lipo), but it's when you consider the next significant numbers it starts to matter (which over time, matters more) - ie 4.2049 and 4.2007. And this will then be of interest when you go up to 11.1 and 14.8 voltages.

I have one of these and it does everything. Only downside is it wont discharge NimH but will charge everything which is nice and it does have plenty of options to limit charge etc and battery balance function for Lipo and comes with connectors for most things already in the box. It as mentioned previously has a cooling fan for the charger which is good as they can get bloody hot when fast charging.

Re: Recommend me a Li-Po Charger

Sorry to hi-jack the thread mate but I'm buying a sentry today and at the moment I'm getting the standard crane stock battery. After a bit of research I see that the sentry can take a lipo in it's stock tube which is something I'll be looking to do in a few weeks.

What is the kit I'd need to run a lipo safely. From what I've seen searching the forums it's this so far.

Lipo battery obviously (I think it's the 7.4 stock tube battery for the sentry)

                    Low voltage alarm thingy?
Some people recommend a lipo fireproof sack
                    Anything else?

                    Cheers guys.

If that was mine I wouldnt bother with the alarm or sack.

If you can tell the note your gun makes you simply stop pulling the trigger when you hear a different note, as LiPo's give a constant performance pretty much untill the moment they can't power the gun any more. Then it's time to swap them over.

I don't own a sack either. That actually sounds a little sexual. Pardon me.

I have 2 alarms and 1 voltage reader, but they will only rarely be used in a gun.

when i havnt used my lipos for a few months,i like to stick a reader on it, to check that they are at a safe level....

regarding the OP....i would just like to mention that it is not advisable to leave your lipos charging without suppervision...they are like small children...although they can be very safe on their own, there is always a chance that something untoward may happen, the moment you turn your back....

If you live on a farm don't charge them in the same barn you park the Range Rover in...lol..

I'm sure you could knock your self up a small brick enclosure that would be fully lipo proof just in case. You are right you shouldn't leave them unattended but the Accucell won't charge if it detects a fault in the circuit. Now I am not saying it cuts out if it finds a fault during the charging process, I'm not sure. But the charger runs a check prior to charging as you have to press the button when it bleeps at you to tell you everything is ok.
