Converting m4 to DMR rifle.
22 February, 2011, 17:39
Right, so once i have sold my sniper, (yes, please check out my vsr thread
) Then i will have a hefty bit of cash, wish i would like to consider using to either upgrading my m4, or purchasing a smaller, lightweight gun.
Also, i have an ics m4, so it has a split gearbox, so i was thinking, i could simply upgrade the split gearbox, e.g. get a second shell, and then i can easily swap it out back to a full auto gun?
Anyway, i would like to know the basics of converting my m4 to a DMR... My first question is, does barrel length really matter? Cause my m4 had standard length rails, so i was hoping to get away with keeping it the 'SD' style, like so...
Yeh, so i want a short DMR, although i will consider getting a longer ris if it's a must, but will i get away with keeping it how it is, and just getting a 300mm inner barrel, or getting a longer silencer and getting a 363mm barrel?
Anyway, onto the internals!
Right, so do i need to touch the lower gearbox (gears, bushings, etc.) or will what i have do just fine?
As for the upper gearbox, what do i need to do, just literally everything? Would be nice if i could get basically a full list of the best parts i can get (within reason, nothing ridiculously expensive).
Onto the barrel...
Yeh, so will i be fine with a shorter barrel, 363mm/300mm? Or does it
need
to be long, like a 590mm etc... I will be going for a prommy since i gathered that's the best you can get, what rubber should i get to go along with it? Bear in mind i will have a high fps setup, maybe 500 if thats possible?
Right, think that's it covered?
Oh, what about a motor, will my ics turbo 3000 do just fine?
Onto the info about a DMR...
So if it's locked to semi (how do i do this?) can i get a 500fps setup, like a sniper?
What kind of range will i be looking at? Further than a normal aeg? (i hope?)
Another thing, i have a extreme-fire cheetah 2n mosfet on it's way, so i think this has a single only function? So i will give it a complete re-wire, and add deans.
As for the battery, i currently use a 9.6v crane stock, will that do? Or is it worth investing in a lipo setup?
Thanks for any help!
Edit: i do have £600 to spend, but i really do not want to spend this! So please do source reasonably priced parts!

Been answered several times, but most recently here:

We don't know, what does your site allow?

Re: Converting m4 to DMR rifle.
My site has a 500fps limit on bolt actions, so surely, a dmr is the same?

That would be a question for your site, as I say. Most sites have lower limits for anything semi-auto (425fps seems common) and some don't make the distinction at all, and they have to run normal AEG limits

Right, well i must find that out first, before investing in it, however, if it is a 425 limit, surely, it will still be a decent rifle? With a good enough range?

Fps doesn't always mean range, Get a decent hop up bucking and a H-nub they should both help more than an FPS boost.

Re: Converting m4 to DMR rifle.
I always use my Bolt action over my DMR, dont forget you will have a min engagement with DMR over 350fps and as above most sites only allow 400fps for locked semi auto.
Spec of my DMR
M120 spring
M120 motor
11.1v lipo
AB mosfet
590mm madbull tightbore.
I foyu want the high fps, you will need a beefy battery and motor to pull the spring back aswell as upgraded internals/bushings.
Mines holding out ok as the Original cost £515 to start so was quite good spec standard
