AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
20 March, 2011, 23:11
Hello there, I know therehave been a few threads about this and it didnt really help me. Im looking for an AK 74 preferably with a Metal Body and Real Wood hald grip. Now Im looking for one purely on the factor of life. How long will the AK 74 last. So I am thinking a metal gear box would be the standard. Just want to buy something that will last and not die quickly. I know some of you will ask these questions and here is some answers. Also will running an AK 74 on a LiPo give a longer life? (if you can use a LiPo on an Ak?)
Play Style: CQB
FPS: Any
Body: Metal
Firing Mode: Full Auto Bursts (im not a semi guy)
Thanks in advance

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
ok,you'd probably want something compact...
AK74SU
its got a short front end and a folding metal stock
if i had the money i would get a
VFC AK74S about £400
or if i was on a budget,i would get the clone of that made by
kalash AK74U....about £150
both are excellent.both are full metal with wooden furniture
there is no reason why they wont last for as long as you have own it, clean the barrel after every 5000 shots, dont damage the hop-up, charge the battery properly, dont strain the motor by firing full auto constantly, and use the correct battery,or no more than 7.4 lipo.
the good thing about AK is that the more you use them, the more tatty the exterier becomes the better it looks...
ICS AKS74u is also a good aeg its priced in between the two mentioned about £300 on zero one
google "review" for any ak that you are interested in,there is a lot of information out there

What the man says! Though Id steer clear of the ICS. Unfortunately they arent compatible with 3rd party AK parts. So if you fancied changing the wood kit or something else at a later stage, you may well run into trouble. Id go with Cyma, or Kalash. My vote leading towards Cyma, as 99% of the parts from everything else fit, and they work great out of the box

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
CYMA is a clone of TM, CYMA is well regarded,as another excellent budget gun, dont worry about ICS,if you want to change anything you can buy ICS parts, and be assured that they are of the same quality.
for a slightly bigger aeg and probably the royals royce i would look at the Real Sword type 56-1, its not a 74....
G&G make good aegs,i have no experience with them though
and KWA have aquired a good reputation recently

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
I'd go with either a VFC or a LCT with that budget. The VFC will take a real wood kit from a real AKSU and LCT's externals are second to none if you're after a 74. Might as well get the best
If you are swayed by a 47 then Real Sword would be the way forward!

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
I'd go for a CYMA they're aks are built like a brick S***-house, i'd go for an AK 102/105 as opposed to a 74u or 74u simply because not alot of people have them and they make a great compromise also i'm a massive mgs fan :D

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
Hmmm.... I am interested in VFC, not so much in ICS as I am a bit iffy about them, thanks for the advice tho guys. I like CYMA because I hear they are the one for AKs. I just generally like the AK range and on my friends gun I Aged the wood on his gun for him using Limpseed oil, sanding blocks, paint and dye. I also aged the metal. Im still trying to decide between the two, I would also be interested in any AK varients so suggestions? If I go for the VFC I know from reviews that the quality is superb. And Cymas are strong but Is the life of of the Cymas reduced by blowback as I don't really want blowback, to me its just a useless neccessity. So I'm asking you helpful chaps, a wooden and metal Ak Varient full stock or folding/collapsing. VFC, KALASH or CYMA. Also one more question gents would a 7.4v lipo run in a CYMA/KALASH and would it fit ok, also would it need a MOSFET
Your help is greatly appreciated.
P.s looking for something new. Bd experiences with second handers.

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
7.4 lipos will fit as long as its stick shaped, and you definately do not need a mosfet for a 7.4 lipo...if you can afford it go for VFC, otherwise you cant go wrong with the other two, but they may need downgrading as they will be too hot new out the box.
its similar to comparing a BMW 3 series and a ford focus.
or the new skoda and a VW golf... all great cars do the job, cover vast price ranges, but it comes down to your personal taste and budget.

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
Hi there, Still have three more questions to ask if thats ok.
1. I know Vega ship with an extra spring is this to downgrade/upgrade the power and can the installed gearbox and motor handle the extra spring.
2. Can CYMA/KALASH run a 7.4v LiPo from stock?
3. Will the blowback on a CYMA/KALASH shorten the life drasticly?
Thanks

Re: AK 74 - Advice on Choosing?
1. pretty sure it's a downgrade spring.
2. yea pretty much any gear box can run a 7.4v lipo from stock as it's in between the power of an 8.4v and a 9.6v
3. i wouldn't worry as you can easily disable it by taking out the wee bit of plastic/ metal that connects the bolt with the piston.
