tar21, or something alike...
4 April, 2011, 16:37
So, deciding to sell my m4 now as i am fancying something abit different, something that not everyone has (like the m4) so i thought about the tar21, looks pretty nice, would look decent with my loadout to, so what do you people think, good buy, yes or no? Does it have any problems? And what gearbox does it run on if i look to upgrade it ever, v2 or v3? Or even something else?
If there is any other gun you could suggest that would be cool too...

The Ares Tavor is beautiful. Get it if you have the money, it is amazingly well made and feels very nice.

what's the internal quality like? i read that everything inside can be upgraded by v2,( possibly v3 parts can't remember) apart from cylinder head so all is good there, thought i think a tightbore, and new rubber would be enough. What about the external quality, is it abs or full metal? I am very very tempted...

Re: tar21, or something alike...
I wouldn't bother buying one if you plan to upgrade it.
It's a hybrid gearbox and takes a mix of parts. The piston shouldn't be changed as it's a very slightly different size to other pistons. So only a few actually fit it. Has it's own cut off lever, it's own trigger switch. Spring guide is also unique as is the cylinder head IIRC.
But on the good side of things it doesn't need upgrades. It runs sweet as a nut out of the box. It's made of fibre reinforced polymer, which is great. But it does have cheap seam lines. Also the mars sight is totally crap.
it comes with a 6.04 barrel as standard and a good hop rubber. The only thing i'd change out is the motor as it's super power hungry

Hmm, sounds good, i guess i don't
need
to upgrade it then, maybe just a reshim, regrease, etc. would do... also would be likely to put deans connectors in. Yeh, won't bother keeping mars site, would put a eotech 552 on with an eolad, heard you can wire it up to the gun... what motor would you suggest? And what size battery can it handle? Would it cope with a 9.6v, or even a lipo (7.4v)?
Sounds good to me, and looks like it may be worth a shot...

Sorry, forgot to ask, been looking around at price, and wondering why at zeroone is it £480, then at another well known hobby site, it is just £300? is there a difference in the model or something?

Re: tar21, or something alike...
Doesn't need a regrease or reshim. It's honestly that good out of the box.
You indeed can wire an eolad up to the mars laser switch. I know this can be done as mine had the mod done to it. I'd recommend a TM motor. Short shaft IIRC it takes. It handles a 9.6v mini easy as pie. 7.4 lipo will be fine too. It's battery space is small. So make sure it'll fit before you go and get a huge lipo. I wouldn't risk an 11.1 in there unless you plan on correcting the AOE and sorting out prem engagement.
90% of retailers dropped the price. Because of the shi**y mars sight.

Re: tar21, or something alike...
Tar21 is cracking.
I own one and love it. The most FUGLY gun I can imagine hated it until I held one and then had to have one.
Works brilliantly out of the box nice quick trigger and a respectable range. Pretty accurate as well.
Works really well on .25's and uses Stanag's which is always good.
I have the mars site it is shit but this is Airsoft and its only a bit of gun porn anyway so wouldnt let that put you off.
If asked would I buy one again the answer is a very solid yes.
Sir we are f&cked we are surrounded. Son we are not f&cked we are in a target rich enviroment.

Re: tar21, or something alike...
Been looking at a few more reviews, when looking, saw the difference between the tan and black version is the outer barrel length, now i would prefer the black one with the shorter barrel, HOWEVER, one of the reviews said that the tan version is the newer updated one, and has had many of the problems fixed? is this true? Can you get black version that are the same? Could this be why there is the huge price difference between some retailers?

Re: tar21, or something alike...
To be honest, although tar 21s are lovely guns, a surprising amount of people seem to own them nowadays. I was at battle lakes on Saturday and saw 4 people with them!
Why not try a G&G F2000? Theyre a bit more rare and beautiful guns.

Re: tar21, or something alike...
Another suggestion, maybe a G&G F2000? (or F2010 as they've called it)
*Edit* Ninja'd by Kang on this one...
Sort of Tar21-esque...
Although, as mentioned previously above, the Real Sword Type 97 tops them all. :D
Heard VERY good things about this gun, and you don't see many people with them, so it's fairly unique...

Re: tar21, or something alike...
Hmmm... just when watching the video review, he said with the longer barrel version the wiring had been sorted out and overall it had a revamp? Oh and i don't fancy a spaceship as a gun, and the type 97, well i think is damn ugly!
