14 June, 2011, 17:43
Hey, just got a small utg two slot rail for the rear of the reciever on my m14, however i can't remove (well not sure how to) the current block that's in the way?
It's this part... the thing on the rear reciever just in front of the iron sight...
if anyone could help me with how to remove it that would be great tehehe!
thanks

Use a small allum key and just unscrew the very small grub screw from the hole and it should come off

Hmm, tried that... how far down should the grub screw be?

Re: how to i remove this part from an m14?
its not an allen screw its a spring steel sleeve thats pushed into the hole and locks it to the reciever, youll need to drill it out then it will slide out the dovetail

i know it doesn't just 'slide' out.
Right, do do i litterally just push it out with the drill? i'm guessing i can't re-use it after? Also, when fitting the new piece, how will i lock it into place?

If you can press the pin out with a small screwdriver then that will do

If you press it out with a screwdriver, then yes.
If you drill it, no.
BUT - Drilling will be a lot easier, sometimes the spring sleeves can be impossible to remove by poking them out.

Re: how to i remove this part from an m14?
also your new block should come with a grub screw fitted so you dont need it anyway

hmm, the new piece looks like it will only slide into it, not like it will be locked into place like the current guide? shall i get a picture?
