different mag feeding speeds?
28 June, 2011, 20:52
Hi guys just a quick question about my MP5K which i am making into quite a high speed gun and was wondering how quick can the high caps feed (RPS/RPM) compared to low/mid caps, or even different makes of magazine?
Any help would be appreciated and sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything.
Cheers Nick

Re: different mag feeding speeds?
for starters it will only be around 22 RPS but may be increased to just below 30

Re: different mag feeding speeds?
Midcaps should feed fine. I don't know the exact number but I read somewhere that somebody was having a problem with midcaps at about 50RPS and had to swap to Hicaps.

Re: different mag feeding speeds?
I used CA metal mids at over 30 a sec without problems.
I wouldn't bother with low caps they are just plain annoying for anything high speed.
Mids are fine though.

wait so highcaps feed faster than midcaps? i would have assumed it was the other way around? although it sounds like i should be fine with either type.

Re: different mag feeding speeds?
You will, but for highs you will be twiddling your knob faster than Gaffer with his shaky photo and tube of lube.

Hicaps are more consistent as the tension on the mechanism is the same all through unlike midcaps the tension changes as the spring stretches out, so for really high ROF you need hicaps fitted up to a mechanism to keep the mag winding, I presume Flash mags would also do the job.

Fixed that for you.
I have used both mid caps and high caps to mid 40's without issue.
In my opinion, it is much better to use mid caps to save the constant winding.

Re: different mag feeding speeds?
Ahhh thanks midas never thought of it as a box mag, but it actually is. I have always though a hicap fixed up with a motor to the quick wind bit as different to a boxmag but I guess they are the same really.
