Hop Up Help
15 August, 2009, 15:07
No matter how hard I try I cant get my hop up right.
How long should the range be for me to accuratly adjust my hop up? I tried at 50 meters but it was innacurate at 25 with that hop up adjustment.
I cant exactly get someone else to do it because I dont know anyone experienced enough.
Thanks

Re: Hop Up Help
I don't quite understand the question you're asking...
What weapon/ hop unit do you have?

Re: Hop Up Help
The idea is, you go somewhere nice and open at your site, normally they will have an area for this. Preferably when there's no wind, or as little as possible. Then, you want to fire a shot. The bb will either drop off, seem to get a little kick, or fly upwards. If it flies upwards, you want to adjust the hop down ever so slightly, then try again, until you get to the point where it no longer flies upwards. Basically, what youre looking for is the longest possible stright flight time.

I Have done this in my garden and it seems to fly pretty damn straight.
It goes up a tiny bit but settles level with the barrel when the shot was fired.
Preferably do I Need a lot more range than say 30 - 50 Feet?

Re: Hop Up Help
You want all the range you can get, obviously :p But not at the expense of accuracy. Theres no point setting the hop all the way on, so you're arcing shots over 150ft. Much better to have a nice, straight trajectory for 50 feet or so, and then itll start to drop off. This is plenty enough for cqb, and even in woodland, very few people are going to be able to make accurate shots above that sort of range anyway, so yea, thats fine. When you go to a skirmish, just spend 10 minutes getting it right, getting it straight, for as far as possible. Its the best thing you can do for your accuracy really, tuning the hop right.
*edit* you shouldnt be judging this from a point of view of your sights or whatever. You want to tune the hop up, and then zero your sights to the longest accurate range, and not the other way round

My sights are zeroed in (havn't adjusted them and they're dead-on accurate)
your probably thinking they aren't, trust me, they are.
If I Shot from the insde of the house to the back of the garden that might be enough range... BRB...

I shot at a Target about 5 Meters way, Hop up is not really needed for that distance and the BB's where dead on, even on full auto (I wrote my Name :D)

Re: Hop Up Help
If you need you sights at 5m, then you really shouldn't be playing!
Zero your sights for the distance you are getting consistent hop effect for. Ideally, a reasonable engagement range (25-30m should do it) and then just adjust up and down for other distances.

Re: Hop Up Help
Its no good if your sights are accurate at 5 metres, they need to be accurate at your maximum distance, this is what i was trying to say. You need to get the hop to be as stable as possible. Then, set up a target, at this range. Aim at the middle, and see where your bb actually hits. Adjust your sights to point at the impact site. Rinse and repeat. For example, my mp5 hop allows me to get about 60-70 feet of level trajectory, at a push. I set up a target 60 feet away, aimed at the middle, and shot. The impacts were slightly to the left and up, so i adjusted my sights slightly to the left and up. I then aim at the middle again, and the sights are now in line with where im hitting, AT THE MAXIMUM RANGE I HAVE. If i use the sights from 5 feet away, theyre wrong, but that doesnt matter, because i dont use the sights that close. And now, im quite easily able to hit the moggy that keeps crapping in my garden, even when its 50 feet away up at the other end.
