  • New Player :)

    Hello all!

I started going to airsoft last week with a group of mates and we love it! Were going back in a few weeks and aim to be registered with the UKARA by the end of the year.

We would like to get our own kit next year, something about the 150-200 price range if possible, can someone recommend any kit for us as good starter guns?

I was thinking of something like an MP5 but there are so many to choose from where do you start? lol

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Adam

    Re: New Player

Well, first off -- welcome to Zeroin.. a great forum community :D

I personally started with an JG MP5 A4 and still use it to this point.. great gun, still reliable and a nice balanced weight.. changed the battery to something higher and I'd not disagree with anyone else who had the thoughts of getting an mp5 for their first gun..

I guess some people would say rent guns, if you're still undecided and see what kind takes your fancy.. but yeah, each to their own

If I were you mate I'd look at the JG G36c, everyone you ask will recommend it. You can customize it easily enough, and should have just about everything available you could want. If you don't fancy that, then try a mp5, m4, or p90 (loads of brands exist, TM is usually a good bet).

If you can't decide ask people at your local site to have a go on there rifles, nearly everyone should let you at least hold it and give you a feel as to whether you like it

        Re: New Player

A mate of mine got a JG MP5J as his second AEG (he broke his first one (M4) on his first game) and it's a nice little gun.
He managed to break it by dropping it a few months back and he gave it to me to fix and I've got to say I was impressed too. If he'd not been an idiot by tucking it into his webbing instead of using a sling I could have easily seen it lasting a good long while.
The only slightly irritating thing with it is the battery is fiddly to get into the front hand guard, I'd probably go with an MP5A4 so you can stick a large battery into the stock then just forget about it for the day.

One thing to keep in mind with MP5s is that the hicaps only hold 200 rounds and you can quickly empty one if you're not careful.
You can get 500 round double mags if you look on a well known auction website and with that in the gun and the included hicap as a spare you'll be sorted until you make the change to midcaps.
All together you should be able to get the MP5, spare mag, new battery and new charger for well under the £200 budget if you look around.

i have a JG MP5 and its brilliant. It does feel plasticcy! But you can get the JG Full metal ones now really cheap too.. might be worth spending a little more to get one of those as they are much stronger.. As for the mags. Mine feels to have a good ROF considering its stock. And i did have four midcaps but i was changing them every 30 seconds!

but def look at a G36 too!

Yeah, Evansy is right -- I went with the A4 version, wired into the stock.. although it is a little fiddley to get in, we dremeled a bit inside the stock to fit a G&P 9.6v large type battery -- easily lasted the GZ weekender.. and still had a lot left in.. else, I'd recommend it.. but G36c is nice also, nice weight, easily customised etc..

              Re: New Player

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the replies!

Like I say it will be start of next year untill we get our own gear I think, untill then we will just use hire guns! I was using a G3 last sunday at the site, very good rate of fire but a bit too long for my liking, I think id prefer something a bit more compact if possible?

I also had a shot of someones AK-47 I think it was, it was a good feel gun, felt right and had a good range on it considering it didnt look as well built as the G3, will try get a shot of that and an MP5 over the next few months.

Someone at the club has a 6 shot grenade luancher!!! I soooo want one of them haha! Looks amazing, bet that packs a fair kick when you get mauled by them!

              Cheers all

welcome to the forum, the type of weapon depends on what type of skirmishing you prefer...cqb or rural.....if its close quarter then go for the compact type weapon,eg mp5/ kalash 74su if you prefer shooting in the great outdoors then something like an m4/m14

                  Welcome to ZeroIn
erm right to the point, about an mp5 they are all amazing guns, But if you play urban of cqb then it is perfection,On the otherhand if you play woodland you just dont have the range

                    Re: New Player

Well, the site we go to is rural, trees n huts, bunkers what not but its pretty well closed in, like theres only one game zone where a long distance gun might come in handy, when you reach the end of it its gets very compact and something mid range would be fine.

What gets me is the range of choice, its like every gun and model under the sun lol! What I wouldnt mind is something I could add a scope and under barrel grenade launcher further down the line, so a gun with upgrade options would be ideal.

Will have to try get some pictures of your site for you lot so you can see what its like, thanks so far

the ares guns are great for the price! but you will need to get hold of a battery (google "vapex batteries") and a charger though as they are not included!

def will say the M4 now i understand your sight.. or an SA80! but they are quite pricey for a good one!
M4's are spot on.. i have a JG M4 and its great.. the range is pretty good.. specially with a TB and upgraded hop!

                            Re: New Player

Yeah gonna have to agree with the armalite varient. Though if it is woodland you do I'd suggest trying out an M16. They don't actually feel that much bigger than an M4 unless you are indoors, very comfy and easy to shoulder, as many upgrade options as the M4 and a lot more stock range (I assume you won't be upgrading internals yourself) easy space for a large battery, and easy to get cheap high cap mags. Also the iron sights on it are pretty good until you scope it up.

I would avoid a specialised weapon, ie a P90 MP5 SD5 etc for your fist gun, as you quickly see the disadvantages of using something that has bee specifically made to fulfil one role (Sniper SMG etc) If you stick with standard issue assualt rifles (anything that a world military uses as their standard arm) then you will be glad with the versatility it will offer you, the smaller ones are good for CQB as well as woodland and rural, and until you can afford another gun it will be all you are using!

Firstly welcome to the forum and to Airsofting!

If you like AK's you could try the Kalsah AKS-74. i just picked one up brand new for £110!!! Its full steel and wood and as solid as you like.
You can add optics and a GP-30 grenade launcher very easily
It can easily take a 9.6v 2000Mah battery and probably has the space to take an 12v should you wish (dont know how the internals would like 12v tho!)
In its standard form it shoots ok but i added a M16 length tightbore (£35) and a decent hop rubber and its now shooting as straight as!
The only downside is that they come firing a bit hot (370fps) so if you buy one see if the shop can give you a free downgrade to skirmishable levels.
