Noobiest question ever!
10 January, 2012, 17:52
Hi all.
Im ashamed to have to ask this, but how do you attach rails to a G36? Ive just purchased a set of Guarder rails for my Ares G36, but cant work out how to fit them! All that came with the rails were 5 screws. Do I need to provide my own bolts or something?

Re: Noobiest question ever!
There should be a pair of screw holes on each side ( and underneath) the foregrip. These nomally have brass or steel thread inserts in as standard. I'd be supprised if Ares don't

Re: Noobiest question ever!
Ares forgrips dont have the holes for them.
You can either bodge them on, or buy a foregrip that has the screw holes on them.

Re: Noobiest question ever!
I wouldnt.
Not only would it ruin the paint on the stock, but it won't hold if you put anything on them.

Re: Noobiest question ever!
Depends on the length AFAIK, but I have an ARES full length G36 and confirm it has no holes.
Place washers under the vents on the foregrip and screw on with a nut

Re: Noobiest question ever!
if you didnt want to use nut and washer, drill the holes one size smaller, and the screws will tap themselves

But won't be as strong as using a washer and nut.

well you can still remove the screws.....its just a suggestion that could be easier than finding nuts, bolts n washers and will be solid enough, because i have done this to an mp5 handguard and it hasnt fallen off yet

Re: Noobiest question ever!
Don't self tap a thread into thin plastic that needs to be load bearing, the thread will fail very quickly. The screws supplied will be machine screws or the like, meaning they have a fine pitch and are designed to interface with a metal thread. Self tapping screws have a much more course thread profile which is designed to privide more bite. Either way a G36 handgrip is not really thick enough to support those kinds of loads. You're best bet is the washer and nut suggestion made earlier in the thread.

The ARES G36 foregrip is more than capable of holding a torch or battery box with no issues. Good call on the self taps though, superior to the scres provided by a long way!
