New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
30 October, 2009, 09:18
Hi
I am Sam, and I live in Cider drinking Somerset. I have always wanted to get into Airsoft, and recently, got a rise, so went ahead and ordered (hopefully) the best starter sniper rifle. It is the Double Eagle M50P ( A VSR Clone iirc?) with a spare mag, and 4000 rounds from actionhobbys. It came to £99.96, so I feel I got a good deal for my money.
Now, I intend to get UKARA registered at some point, but all I was really wondering, was what Scope and mounts would I need for it, and can I go all COD4 and fit an ACOG, or are they pants?
Thanks:D

Re: New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
Hey Sam, welcome.. I'm also from Somerset
About the mounts, I'm pretty sure an ACOG *or* scope is able to fit on the supplied mounts with the gun.. so I'm assuming all you'll have to get is your specified sight..

Hi, nice to see someone else from around here, I live in Chard, which I would say something about, but the profanity may be a little inappropriate!
I am sure that the rail is 20mm Weaver mounts, however, when I check flebay, most scopes etc are dovetail? I need the scope and the mount things that hold it to the rail (I am new to this lol).
Thanks!

Re: New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
In my honest opinion I would say that sniping would not be the best introduction to the sport, mainly down to that you can get bored with sniping because people expect to go "all cod4" and acheive no-scopes and getting your scope impossibly steady and this can lower your expectations of the sport. I would suggest going for an AEG (assault rifle) for your first gun mate. Perhaps something like a JG AUg or M16 and this can give you the range that a sniper rifle cangive you and also enable you to have a full auto option if you need it.

I've highlighted the errors of your ways! Basically, the worse thing (in my, and many others opinion) is to start airsofting with a sniper rifle. Airsoft is NOT a computer game!

Have to agree with them here. If you really want to try sniping, maybe pick up a JG M14?

WOW i never knew jg did m14's. Yeah thats a good idea aswell as the AUG - its a bulpup weapon so the barrel will be almost as long or even loger than the m50 your getting.

Re: New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
Well, I do know that Airsoft isn't like computer games, so yeah, maybe I approached it the wrong way? I am a .22 Marksman with the Air Training Corps, and shoot and regional and some times Corps level, so my aim is true, despite being a lefty. And yeah, I can see where you are coming from, in that respect. I also own and build Ghillie suits for people, and do survival courses at RNAS Merryfield, here in somerset.
But thanks for your input, I will give it a go, and if not, a mate who introduced me has a AKS 74 that he said he would swap for it.
Now, I still need help picking a scope, I am not sure which will fit, and what type to go for?

Any scope with a 20mm rail attachment mate will work. I would go for something like a 3-9X40 or 50, they dont cost much (see the site you mentioned earlier)

I'm sure you've been told this already, but barrel length hardly matters.
Think it's too late for him now anyway, he says he's ordered his M50.
If only people asked for advice
before
they bought things

Don't worry about the scope mounts too much. If the sight you really want is weaver mount, you can always buy an adaptor from fleabay.
Welcome to the sport.

Re: New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
Welcome to the forums mate, and welcome to airsoft!
First of all, you should know that due to forum rules, you cannot mention or link to other sites other than zero one for buying guns. Not having a go, but just to warn you that the mods wont be too happy!
You could mount an ACOG on the rifle, but it wouldnt look all that good! Your best bet is to buy a scope. Remembeing airsoft is not really that accurate, especially over long range, you may struggle using the scope to aim. It takes ages to zero scopes in on sniper rifles, especially on the bedding in stages of the spring. Plus its a bit different being sat in the prone position and trying to shoot a target rather than a moving real person.
A lot of people buy AEGs as their first gun, because it is a pick up and go gun. Once the hop is set, off you go! There are plenty of cheap AEGs available, such as the Classic Army Sportline range. Sniping is quite an art in airsoft, and even i, who have been doing this for a couple of years now, really struggles with sniper rifles. I find i lose my temper really quickly when i cant hit anything.
If you do stick with a sniper rifle though, it may be worth you buying a back up weapon. Most people go for pistols, either GBB or AEP. But there are plenty of small weapons such as the P90 or MP7 which can be slung on your back and used for it you get into a scrape!
Anyway feller, best of luck! Im not trying to put you off sniping, but its just worth bearing in mind that it is quite a discipline and wil take a while to get the hang of!

Thanks for the help!
I know Zero In is Vbulletin, so do you have a Rep system, so I can say thank you?
But yeah, I ordered a TASCO 4x20 Scope, was cheap, and now I need some mounts. I found some on Fleabay, they are 20mm but should I get Low Profile, Mid or High Profile?
Sorry for all these questions, I must sound like the uber airsoft noob?

I disagree with all the people saying starting out with a sniper is bad. I started with a tm vsr and I love it =)

Re: New to Airsoft, and Zeroin!
the tasco is fine. Did you notice if it came with scope rings? If it did, check they are 20mm. If they are, it should just slap straight on!
