  • Looking for guidance on RIF/IF airsoft

Hello, Im Aaron, and im 14,
i bet your all ready thinking 'some kid who wants to look cool to his mates', well your wrong,
    i LOVE airsoft,
and anything involved around it, but 2-tone airsoft guns are holding me back from fully devoting myself to this sport,
now i looked around and ive been told many sides of stories tales, the lot,

the bottom line is, how can i safely own a RIF airsoft weapon at my age?

Sorry to say mate, unless somebody just gives you one for no apparent reason you cant - have to wait till youre over 18 and have a valid defence

The only way you'll get one in your household is for a parent to get one by skirmishing and satisfying a ukara defence (3 games in no less than 2 months). You can then use the RIF with their permission.

ma close friend has a UKARA, is he allowed to purchase a weapon, then just 'give' it to me for 'free', if you get what i mean

Id say its more being impatient, why would a two tone hold you back? If im not mistaken they are identical to there RIF counterparts bar some flourescent paint. Why not just cover the painted parts with camo tape while your at a skirmish then take it off when your leaving?

ahh, because its hard to find 2 toned versions of the weapon,
and i would like to be more of a sniper/DMR style player, having a big neon gun would make stealth very hard.

Yes, that's illegal because we know that's not going to be the case

Any gun can be two toned by either dealers or private sellers.

most dealers will two tone any gun you want, and as for the stealth as I already said, cover it with camo tape then remove when leaving site.

Yeah I was going to say this, retailers usually charge £10-15 to two-tone any gun they sell so nothing is holding you back, only the law and there isn't a safe way around it without potentially endangering the sport.

Out of curiosity why is this illegal? What is it that makes purchasing on behalf of someone illegal?

Did you not note the little inverts?
That would imply air commas when making a statement, which when read implies that hes neither going to confirm nor deny a service or payment of some description in return for the gun.
2tone does also fall under similar rules, anyone over the age of 18 can buy one (unlike RIFs where a form of defence is required) However someone under the age of 18 cant give money or services for that IF. So as a straight up gift ie Birthday present/christmas present then thats fine, should you obtain it and do chores as payment or pay money, then thats wrong.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
                            Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Yes I noted the quotes and was well aware of what he was likely implying. But my question was about why it's illegal for someone to buy a RIF or IF on behalf of someone else. What is that based on? Legislation? Case law?
