Not really. If UKARA was law (and there are enough airsofters who think it is) then I see your point, but as it isn't the be all and end all of RIF purchase, as loki said, he's not trying to circumvent UKARA simply because there's no legal need for it in the first place, he's just confirming other options.

spelled out like that, yes, you are quite right, but that isnt what loki wrote.
loki just said he wasn't trying to avoid it, but by not using it and using something different, you are still avoiding it
thats all i meant

Yeah, we're discussing semantics really
You can avoid something by circumventing it but just because you're avoiding something does it mean you're circumventing it?
English lesson over, on with the show! :D

Maybe the ukara rules could be changed to " you have two months to grow a tactical beard and give up call of duty. And start eating bacon sarnies . As we all know that it makes you a much more respected skirmisher ..

Love the bacon.
Quite like Cod, although I prefer Rock
Cannot grow a beard. Face simply looks like I have dirty smudge on it.

That's a UKARA requirement, not a VCRA requirement. The VCRA says that you have to be a 'regular skirmisher' but then doesn't go on to define what they class as regular.
Just to clarify (or possibly further complicate) a couple of issues: the VCRA (or more specifically Commencement No. 3, which is the bit that pertains to airsoft) does
not
actually specify "regular" anywhere - it doesn't even imply regular either. All it says is:
"The regulations provide for two new defences. The first is for the organisation and holding of airsoft skirmishing. This is defined by reference to “permitted activities” and the defence applies only where third party liability insurance is held in respect of the activities."
Therefore anyone can avail themselves of a defence to sell a RIF to someone if they believe the person is going to use it to play airsoft at a site with third party liability insurance - the person they are selling to therefore does not even have to have played a single game before!
This technical reading of the law is why ZeroOne felt they could legally sell RIFs to anyone at the weekender, even if it was a player's first game ever. Their defence to sell would be formulated by saying that they believed anyone wearing an armband had paid a large amount of money for that armband in order to play airsoft at a site with third party liability insurance (their site) and that they were therefore satisfied that if a RIF was sold to that person they would indeed use it for that purpose. Legal requirement for defence met!

Re: Buying a RIF but have no ukara number (been playing regularly though)
That is exactly the law.
UKARA (For RETAILERS) membership has a series of "guidelines" or "suggestions" which retailers agree to follow / abide by (or not when it interferes with profit margins).
I think this thread is about done now.
It was done in the first few posts tbh.
OP - get the retailer you are looking to buy from to call the site you play at, or, the site you play at to call the retailer...... Provided those two talk and verify you, you are golden.
If the retailer will not take that as evidence, that is their prerogative to protect themselves (daft, but their prerogative) and you should find another retailer.
If the site refuses to make the call for you I would ask to see their 3rd Party Liability Insurance which is a requirement of the VCRA for you to be eligaible.
