Re: Buying without UKARA
I know.
We have already established he does not have the defence that applies to airsoft. Does he qualify in another way?
Instead of slamming doors on people, lets try to show them the doors they can use.

Re: Buying without UKARA
It might help us to help you, if you can answer the following questions:
1. How old are you?
2. How many times have you skirmished at your usual site and over what period of time?
If you are 18 or over and have skirmished three times in more than two months at the same site, just get yourself on the UKARA database.
If you are under 18, you cannot buy a RIF:
24ASupplying imitation firearms to minors
(1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm.

Re: Buying without UKARA
Well hopefully its a totally legal and legitimate way.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

I sometimes wish I never got signed up to that accursed BookFace.
I must've missed shedloads of these things?
By the way, I do BookFace now...had I mentioned that?

Me too!
Edit: For those who didn't see it, it was one (of 3) of our U18 friends wanted ads for a RIF that I've now binned

Re: Buying without UKARA
AK_dog,
Why is your gun for sale under the ID of Iainairsoft, a member who joined on May 31st 2014? According to the sale listing he has owned it for a while. Is it just possible that you have created a new ID that does not show that you are under 18? Is that your "solution"?

Re: Buying without UKARA
Actually that was an account my dad created to sell my gun because he doesn't want me to keep it anymore and since I was not allowed in the classifieds then he thought that he would make an account
But it was banned because it was "a duplicate account" even though it wasn't
My 'solution' was for my friend who is over 18 and is in the UKARA database to buy and keep 1 gun for me so that it was legal but so that I still had my own gun
- - - Updated - - -
That's why the account was called Iainairsoft
My dad is called Iain

Re: Buying without UKARA
Interesting first post, but...
Not really, we established he was under 18 and therefore any attempt to purchase a RIF/IF would be illegal so any attempt to try and 'bypass' the law is not recommended!

Re: Buying without UKARA
It's worth remembering that UKARA and other defences are one of several 'defences to buy'.
I don't have UKARA registration but I work in the industry so no retailer I've used has an issue, i'm also a historical re-enactor which is also a legal defence to buy.

Yes that may be true for you but the OP is under 18, so there is no legal way for him to purchase an RIF anyway.

Re: Buying without UKARA
I meant it in a general sense. If the OP was a member of a re-enactment group (and possible at 16) he'd be able to buy whatever he liked.
The crazyness of the 're-enactor defence' is that say for example I portray WWI German Infantry, complete with picklehaube! legally I can buy a Kriss Vector.. the law doesnt care what era you portray, it gives you a valid defence to buy a RIF. Its frankly bonkers. You could be in a roman group but legally be in the clear.
I mention this as while the OP may or may not be in this position it's worth reminding, or informing, those that do say historical game only at series of sites and don't have a 'home site' that if they are part of a legitimate group UKARA is not a legal requirement.
A lot of people think its the be all and end all and it simply isnt.
edit: btw i'm not suggesting this as a 'back door' past checks... only insured re-enactment groups qualify and no re-enactment group is going to sign you up and take membership without checking you out and sounding out your reasons for joining.. if you're just in it to get a gun you'll get the boot from any group i know of. You do need to be properly into it, but... a lot of people cross over from living history to airsoft and the other way around and I know of a few guys with shotgun licences for their blank firing rifles who were under the impression they had to have an 'airsoft specific' defence... and they don't. They just need to be part of a valid re-enactment group.
*personally* i'd like to see this tightended up and for a re-enactor to only be able to buy RIFs from their era (give or take five years either side).

But are there any cases of re-enactors using RIFs for crime? Or more specifically, re-enactors misusing RIFs that aren't replicas from the era they re-enact? I don't think it's really much of an issue, especially since it's so easy to buy an IF and paint it if one was intent on misusing it.
