I work with ACPO, they rarely care about important issues let alone trivial ones concerning Airsoft :-)

A FAC has no bearing on RIFs

Trivial ones, like shooting a genuine airsofter by mistake?
Perhaps that explains why it was written and signed by an Assistant Chief Constable personally, as well as being copied to the Armed Police Secretariat.

I often take my guns to work to carry out repairs, out of sight of course but does that mean i should transport them there? always transported in a gun bag

^ Yes, you have a reasonable excuse, IMO.
Of course whether the magistrate from leafy, safe suburbia would see it that way is a different matter...

Re: Police guidance on transporting RIF/IFs
cheers Robin, Thanks for taking the time to do all this, I hope that talking to my uncle helped get some clarification too, but this definatly helps.
The problem with taking guns to and from places is that its quite a grey area, like we've seen and heard many bobbys on the beat haven't heard of certain laws/defences, so yes thank you very much.
I'll deffinatly print this of for myself and give one to my uncle, to show what we've done to research it, and i'm 99% sure he'll say that this is right and what we should be doing
Hopefully we can now establish a definate understanding of what is right, wrong and how we can go about skirmishing safly and correctly in the eyes of the law.
Cheers again
Feenix

Re: Police guidance on transporting RIF/IFs
Hi guys any help would be greatly appreciated, where would I stand, because I a, don't have a UKARA because my local site closed down and I don't seem to go anywhere enough to apply for membership elsewhere, as we change sites monthly, but my rifles are not by any means two- tone and I transport them fairly regularly between shops and sites etc, but also don't know what would happen if the police came knocking, having been reported for carrying to vehicles (obviously not in the open) but its not hard to realise rifle bag probs means rifle of some effect, need to know or will have to sell due to fear of ramifications. Thanks to all the info so far it's helped a lot but would feel better if I knew of a solution.

Re: Police guidance on transporting RIF/IFs
You don't need any form of Licence / Certificate / Chit / Excuse / Permission / Remit to
own
a RIF. As long as you have legitimate reason to carry them (concealed of course) be it repair, transport, en route to a game them you'll be fine. You only need a defence to
purchase
.

Re: Police guidance on transporting RIF/IFs
All depends on the Force, each time we shoot, we inform Leicestershire Police by their firearms event booking form, and when in Nottingham at our training ground we inform the local beat coppers who log it on the system. Its all about communication.

Re: Police guidance on transporting RIF/IFs
As panoptes said it is perfectly leagl to own RIF's, the VCRA only covers selling Importing and Manufacture. As long as you have then out of site ( not in a shoulder holster ) and unloaded you are not braking any law.
If stopped and they ask you what you have in the car tell them, if they don't ask don't tell them. Simples.
The laptop is mightier than the pistol.
