Airguns/airsoft guns/blank firing guns UKARA?
17 August, 2011, 13:32
So I brought a desert eagle, from a legit 'air rifle' shop, who were pissed off at UKARA because to become a member of the UKARA retailers .. blah blah ... you have to stock ONLY airsoft items. (they are having a rant at trading standards about this or something)
ANYWAY:
they sold this to me without asking for a defence because they said it had a muzzle velocity of over 1 joule. (LULWUT?!) (due to the enormous weight of it's slide and a cold CO2 capsule it fps'd at 150 when I got it home) but because "it was over 1 joule" (500fps I think??) they classed it as an air pistol, and so no defence needed just to be over 18 to buy it.
How does that work? Its defo a RIF (even though it has the less than authentic extended mag) also now that I have found it's not an air pistol ... it's not illegal to own? Or it is illegal to own?? I am much confused.
Secondly, I have a blank firing glock, (RIF) (maybe to use in CQB as it has a blocked up barrel and makes a good distraction)
anyway my understanding is that it is illegal to sell RIFs without a defence but not illegal to own them, to compensate for people owning them before the legislation?
I have read through some of the threads and see some conflicting views, also lets face it, it's the internet, anybody could profess to know what they are talking about. (I realise that a large majority of people on this forum will know what they are talking about, but i didn't want to leave it to chance)
err so maybe if somebody could have some patience and help me out with these little issues it would be spiffing.
Also I should point out that I am not UKARA registered, however I have been airsofting for a while and have all the relevant paper work, just don't want my name stuck on a database for many people to access. (let's face it, it's not very secure).

It's not against the law to own RIF mate,
Its not even against the law to buy one without a UKARA.

CALLING ROCKIN ROBIN!!
Exactly that was my thinking!
also if manufacturing only applies to companies not individuals why is there such a stigma around these guns and this topic?
surely it all boils down to if you can get away with buying one ... do!
also traveling with one isn't illegal ... so is anything actually illegal?! (within reason)

I wouldn't advise getting on the number 32 bus, with it on full display, then going into the bank and "Showing it off" whilst asking to make a withdrawal!

You have to keep it in an 'Appropriate travel case' making sure that at no point is it in public view.

Carrying it in public without a good reason.
Imitation firearms are just like Knifes. You need to be over 18 to buy. Legal to keep at home. No need for a lisense BUT
Dont get caught on the street with one tucked into your belt

I see, so basically use your common sense and don't act like a douche ... well I think I can handle that.
also ... if you are over 18 and it's not illegal to walk around with them in a bag or something ... why would you need to worry about having a reason? Surely you are legally allowed to wander around with it so having a reason isn't exactly important?
although i guess having a reason means your reason is not to rob a bank or similar stupid crimes.

RR should be able to clear up some details, but...
1J is approx 328fps
A blank firer isn't classed as a RIF, you only need to be over 18 to purchase one

how can it not be classed as a RIF? ... or is it an IF?
god my head hurts!
it's not a bright orange one btw.
and if one only needs to be over 18 to purchase ... why do websites ask for a valid defence to sell you one?

It's not orange? Sorry, my mistake, for some reason thought it was and was an IF

yeh it's pretty damn realistic ... apart from 8mm stamped into the side of the slide, but that's quite small.
also don't know if you've fired one before but it makes your ears ring for hours after.
anyway... so to recap ... it's not illegal to own it because I'm over 18 ... it's not required to have a defence to own it ... and as long as it's locked away out of sight when traveling ... it's not illegal to travel with.
so returning to my previous question ... why the stigma around this? if nothing is illegal why do people freak out? or even bother with trying to fabricate a defence against VCRA?
also thank you all for your replies ...
