Here's one for ya: Removals and RIFs
11 October, 2011, 20:55
I'm moving soon (within UK) and the terms and conditions of the removals firm state the following
can not
be carried:
• "Firearms of any description"
Are RIFs firearms of "any description"?

It should be fine as long as they are boxed up in plain cartons.
Actual firearms need specialist transportation ie locked cases etc and could potentially make the driver/mate a target for thiefs or terrorists.

Re: Here's one for ya: Removals and RIFs
I'd assume the above in a Court of Law but I'm imagining the guy who turns up to do the pre-move assessment saying "naah mate - them's guns innit".
I can hide them of course but if they 'go missing' during the move it's no claim for me...

I hadn't thought about the insurance side of it. You and I know they are not firearms, they are toys. If they are packed in plain cartons with other stuff there should not be a problem.
To be sure you'd better phone them.
or can't you just put them in the boot of your car and move them your self?

Well, some say they're not legally toys either!
Unfortunately, I'd be unable to pack 15 Rifles and a GPMG in the car as well as a wife, a newborn and two dogs!
I suppose I
could
make the wife and kid walk...

Can the Missus drive?
If so let her drive the Car and hire a small Escort type Van for the day and do it yourself?

Re: Here's one for ya: Removals and RIFs
Technically speaking a RIF is an Imitation... not an actual firearm. In the experience I've had, the police will treat it as a firearm until they have deemed it a toy, every police officer and HMRC employee I've talked to have said that they are regarded as "toy guns" (mind you thats only 2 police officers and 1 HMRC employee =P). So I would image that as long as they are packed sensibly then there will be no problem?
I did talk to my Dads laywer this year about it and he told me that based on government guidelines for a "firearm" an airsoft rifle is not a firearm.

Fair idea but, no, she doesn't drive and probably wouldn't solo anyway with a newborn.

I couldn't give a rat's arse about the carrier's guidelines to be honest but it's the insurance aspect that bothers me. It's a lot of money to find you're not insured for! Hell, I'll bet even my insurers won't cover the 'nasty little granny-scaring things'...
I think my best option is probably a roof rack and plenny o' tarp!

Re: Here's one for ya: Removals and RIFs
you could post them, or courier them to your new place. You could also take them up earlier during the day in the car on your own, providing its not too long of a drive
posting is is an expensive option, especially for the gpmg, but you can track their progress, and not have to worry about transporting them

Ask them, I bet they're fine with it. Besides, if any box goes missing, they are responsible. Anything could be in the box as far as they know, and if you're using a reputable company they won't be nosing around in your belongings
