I would personally doing what they ask you to do.
If you are stopped and they for whatever reason ask you to open it, after you have said what it is. Just do it.. If you open it and show them you are not going to get in anymore trouble for it, as they asked you to open the case. It isn't getting it out in public if you show them in the back of your car. If you open it take it out and start holding it up and shaking it around, then fair enough..
By saying no it will raise their suspicion and ultimately they will probably open it themselves

Most non fire arms police would not be able to tell the difference any way.

Totally, as I've said very recently in another thread, a couple of my neighbours (both cops, one armed team and one beat) proved that.

But, they'll apply what they refer to as the attitude test. Give them grief and they'll cause you problems, but go out of your way to help them and they'll be all warm and fluffy. If you say something along the lines of "I've got toy guns in the case, are you happy for me to open it here?" you'll be OK as it's obvious your trying to do what they've asked while also trying to avoid an incident in public.

No policemen should even make that request and if they did you can actually report them. But if you do expose it then you are the one breaking the law and can be arrested for a firearms offence. The officer shouldn't arrest you if you do the correct thing as mentioned by trigger, as you are breaking no law unless you are giving them reason to believe otherwise.
My sources are from the Bracknell Firearms officer about 4 years ago as well as about 13years ago by a sergeant at reading police station after being stopped and searched after buying a rif.

If they ask to see what you're carrying, show them after politely explaining what it is. If you refuse, they can detain you.

Just a quick note, if you are really concerned if/when being stopped by the police. Get your phone out and stick it on video record. Explain to the officer you are recording the situation and everything said, and that it is to hold everyone involved accountable. To which they will most likely tell you that you can't film them (which you can as it is classed as filming in a public place)

That way, should there be any repercussions of following the officers requests, you have proof that he/she requested it.

All that being said, just be open and frank with them, and I'm sure they will be okay with you. Also doing it all by the book will probably get you to/from a game quicker.

and you will find your self arrested for being a prick, he will find something to do you for dunno what but he will, and they cant do me for a firearms offence because it isn't a firearm.

opening a case also does not fulfill the definition of brandishing. also taking legal advice from a copper is liable to cause you issues. for legal advice call a lawyer. you can beat the rap but never the ride. Be polite and be reasonable. if opening the case in your boot was brandishing, having the dam thing in your boot would be brandishing as as said above it is is considered to be in public.

don't be a cock and you will walk away, same as when stopped with regards to being stopped carrying a knife, be polite and you will walk on with it legally, be a cock and cop an attitude and you will be banged up for weapons charges.

He's right, just be polite, not cocky and follow his/her requests and all will be gravy. You won't be in the wrong and you can get on to your game or home quicker.

While I agree with you about not being an idiot if you want the police to be nice to you, it doesn't have to be an actual firearm for the firearms act to apply.

Telling people that you can't be done for firearms offences in relation to airsoft guns is dangerous and misleading. Not only does VCRA make having an imitation in a public place an offence without reason, the firearms act also prohibits possession of an imitation firearm in a public place. May I refer you to page 2 of the letter from ACPO on this subject:

It might not be a firearm, but a conviction under the firearms act sure sounds like a firearms offence to me!

ah semantics always the fun, its not a firearms offence tho under the law as thats fairly specific and bans you from having access to any replica firearm or firearm after release amongst other interesting issues. a conviction under the firearms act could be for possession of pepper spray.

Me and about 20 of my mates having a friendly game in the woods next minute we have 7 armed responce cars 2 hellicopters and the road to the woods and the surrounding area blocked off because some jackass walked across the road holding a ak in the air needless to say we *** ourselvs, then while getting escorted bk to the houses by police one of my mates jumps out of a bush pointing his pistol at every one big mistake on his part 3 officers turn around pointing guns at him while another takles him to the ground

When one of your team mates is still in full US gear including the body armour, helmet and all that good stuff (no guns or holsters) goes into KFC and the look of the guy behind the counter sees some army guy who asks for some chicken. Dont hate because he was wearing the stuff, lunch break at the site and 4 hungry airsofters need KFC... NEED!

this wasnt on the way to site but here we go
i had done some work on my wa infinty at work and had the guns still in its hard case in the front of the car as i was on my way ot a party (thinking why still in the car) but the party was a bout 10 minutes from a certain airsoft shop down near chalfont . where the pistol goes in for a yearly service . but on the way got pulled over and admitted i had the pistol and that i was goin to a party and the next day i would be dropping it off at the shop for service . so they asked me to put it in the boot there . so i opened the boot and the cops ssaw a boot full of tool including a crow bar and sledge hammer (im a truck mechanic ) so they proceded to empty my car and took over half hour of searching before they allowed me to repack the boot and go on my way needless to say never did that again
