legalities
17 April, 2013, 16:29
Hi Mod team,
Just been doing some reading and found out an interesting piece. It is now illegal to ship airguns to anyone but a registered firearms dealer.
Just thought I would give the heads up as there is a lot of folks on here selling airguns in trade for airsoft guns etc who post them which is in turn breaking the law. Now while I know they can't exactly be policed without banning airgun selling on the forums (which I don't agree with) I think it is only fair that we make the sellers aware of the law and risks involved with shipping airguns.
Just the bit of info.
Cheers for reading.

Re: legalities
according to the BASC, the VCRA does require people who sell airguns "by way of buisness or trade" to be registered firearms dealers, and transactions must take place face-to-face. but that private sales are unaffected

Re: legalities
Keyword 'trade' second hand sales are business as usual, typical bad politicking

Re: legalities
As a private seller you must ensure the person you are selling to is over 18. When they have paid you, pop it in the post.
Face to face sales etc ONLY apply to Registered Firearms Dealers (RFDs)

Re: legalities
Would make sense was on my local firearms store while looking at airguns and rifles. Another legal loophole in the VCRA.

Re: legalities
Not really a loop hole - sensible.
If we could only sell them to RFDs and not privately you would always be offered bottom dollar.
If we could only buy them from RFDs we would always pay top dollar, even for for pre-owned.
What it stops is RFDs selling them in bulk, on the net, with no checks on who they are selling to. All my air rifles were bought online before the laws changed. It would have been feaseable to use somebody elses card to pay for them and pretend to be them in order to obtain an air rifle under age.
It is un workable to force ythat onto a private sale - i want to sell my gun from Lands End to somebody in John O'groats... a face to face sale is not practical so they sensibly allow postage.
