I don't mean to pick on Ste887 here. But I'd like to draw peoples attention to something that really annoys me. First, an example.

Notice how a few people have given fair answers there. Then I've tried to give as comprehensive an answer as possible. That's followed by the OPs reply, and everything is moving well. Till someone butts in with a 3 word post, totally lacking basic sentence structure. On top of that, he's posted something which is just totally wrong, but that's not the issue here.

I've added a large amount of information to the debate, and the OP has a fairly good idea what to look at, and what he's doing, and the 3 word response degrades the thread I feel. He could have at least have used a verb, something we were all taught (I hope) is an integral part of any sentence.

It would also have been nice, if he'd explained how a "sticky floating valve" could cause this problem, and how to fix it. If he'd taken the time to somehow prove I was talking a load of bullshit, I'd be happier than I am about this travesty of a post.

Now, I must offer an apology to Ste887, because he's far from the only person who offers this type of post. Like him, many of the people who do this, often have huge post counts as well, so it's not like you weren't here the last time I complained about it.

Indeed, it does seem people give simple answers without actually explaining why. There could be a number of reasons for this. Maybe the can't be bothered, or maybe the don't actually know, but feel they just have to post something, which they read somewhere, which may or may not be true

Perhaps Steve was sitting on a train and unable to reply... that would appear to sound like the sort of situation Rampage is put in when he needs to reply to threads...

Perhaps he would give a more comprehensive answer later?

Is it really necessary to point our fingers (as it would seem, very quickly) when we do not know the other persons standpoint? At the end of the day, that user has contributed to the thread. The OP may know exactly what he means and by the three word input, have solved the problem.

For example... if someone asks "I put in a 350 spring and I'm getting 270 what is the most likely cause of the problem" - if I say "air seal" - are you going to jump on and create a thread about me too?

I don't mean to sound rude, but I always think that both sides of the story should be considered, whatever they may be.

Furthermore, people are allowed to share their opinions, and if it's something you don't agree with, or think the post is unnecessary, there is a report button on this forum, which I know about far too well!

Fair point Gaffa. So when I post back with, "he doesn't know what he's talking about, ignore him", that's a perfectly valid response?

If you care to, take the thread I've given, a little further. Say the answer is a "sticky floating valve". Well, I'm personally pretty sure it isn't. Having never heard of such an event. Floating valves also being a KSC/WA term not a TM/WE part. And them not really having any bits which could become sticky, leads me to believe this isn't the case. I'll also add, if it were a sticky BBU valve, you'd probably be experiencing it sticking when it's closed not open. This would mean all blow back and no gas down the barrel. Not the symptoms exhibited. If it did stick open (I'd be absolutely amazed) then that would behave in much the same way as it would if it were broken. The slide would not move nearly at all. Where as the guy has just said he got 3 shots from it before it vented again.

Would you want to write out this kind of detailed analysis of a point someone has tried to make, which is basically wrong, when they couldn't be bothered to write more than 3 words? right after you've given an answer that took you about 15 minutes to write?

As for reporting it. I don't think the mods should remove posts because I don't agree with them. I don't think they should be removed even because they are flat out wrong. The more you make people learn in the tech section, the better right? But the sort of post I'm talking about here, is hardly conducive to lengthy discussion.

No, it probably wouldn't be the ideal response as it would probably provoke disruption (in my mind, similar to the "Quiet your face!" post), but as most of us are adults, I'm sure we can refrain from posting such things, no?

I'm not really "with it" when it comes to Gas parts etc, but it could just be that he got confused mixing his knowledge up with the brands.

At the end of the day, it is your own doing to write out such a response. I'm not saying it isn't appreciated, but I'm sure that you're not the only member who's got this sort of tech experience. Anyone can post it, but I don't believe "anyone" would get offended or peeved at someone else posting a 3 word response. I'd just ignore it.

Is lengthy discussion required? It's in the tech section, and to my mind, when people have resolved their problems, the thread isn't looked at again. If Ste... thinks that his contribution may fix the problem, sure as hell, I'd post it!

I'm sure the OP doesn't want a discussion, debate or argument, they just want their weapon sorted!

Maybe your getting jumped on for, as an example, a lower post count than the person your complaining about (and I've seen some B.S. in all internet forums)?

I asked a question (slightly sarcastically) as I don't get why something was done, in one of the topics, and granted I gave a set of poor examples, I got one half decent reply and a reply that could be classed as moronic, seemingly as I have a lower post count to some of the other users.

I may be wrong, I may be right, I don't know but maybe the 3 word reply was enough to get the person looking at an area (if not the component).

To me, the 3 word post, and my "quiet you" post, are about equal. I mean, I'm pretty sure he's wrong, in the same way he's pretty sure he's helping. Neither of us have bothered to explain why though.

I'd also like to point out, I'd mentioned the valve in the BBU as a possible cause in the long post above Ste887s. So, he's sort of repeating what I've said. I'd mostly ruled it out already.

I doubt I'm being jumped on for having a lower post count. The people here generally recognize post count is meaningless. Add to that, I was moderating the tech section under the title of, "technical advisor", for a little while. That and I'm a bit of a troll. Mostly when it comes to people being nasty about other people, for such indiscretions as I'm picking on here. Seems I've slipped to the wrong side today.

You always going to find people with opinions, and many taken from other threads they have read.

The best way to deal with it is convince people with explanation of why X Y or Z is happening. Rather than just saying other user is not right
