Users Posting In The Classifieds
25 January, 2011, 10:38
I have started this poll (yes yet another hated poll) in order to get some kind of census regarding the following.
As a sale thread creator, do you want other users to be able to post in it after you have initially created your thread?
Now please read that question carefully, and take note of the way I have worded it. I only want opinions regarding people who actually list items, not those who think a question is better asked on the forum.
I know there are questions that are best asked on the public side of the forum, however if the creator of a thread receives the same question multiple times they can either contact a classifieds moderator to add the information, or wait for their 3 day bump in order to add it.
I am also aware that some times it is nice to let other users know that you have taken an interest in the weapon before them, and for them to know there are other people interested in order to make a stronger offer etc.
There may be other reasons for wanting to post in a sale thread, however those are the most prominent ones I can think of.
Arguments for this action include:
90% less classifieds spam.
Easier to read thread.
Fairer listings from less bumps.
Possible faster sales due to the above.
Again there may be other reasons.
OTHER IDEAS WILL NOT BE LISTENED TO IN THIS THREAD! So please stick to this topic if you have other comments you think will help users make a decision.
Thanks

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
Personally, I tend to list everything at once and try my best not to miss anything out.
However, I recently posted on a thread asking what model of gun someone was selling!
So, if everyone tries not to miss out any crucial data, or has used the template correctly,
this idea should be pretty good
.
However, bumping is useful for sales... many times I have had successful sales minutes after bumping something to the top again after 3-5days.
Otherwise from above, I'm voting for PM'ing rather than thread posting.

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
Please read again carefully, I did specifically say other users. Thread creators would still be able to bump after the 3 days.

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
It would certainly make my job easier, classified spam has gone off the scale!
However, people do seem to miss out critical pieces of information, but then not having to clear up all the spam means I'd have more time to deal with it, so I vote NO.
I think we should have a list of Sales Moderators/Assistants sticky'd in the Classifieds, that way anyone wanting to ammend their thread (for the reasons mentioned above) can clearly see who they need to contact. Unless a group can be created and when the user PMs the group all classified assistants get it?

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
I, personnally, would be happy to continue allowing other users to post in my thread. It doesn't happen often (as many do already PM any questions) but I don't mind someone adding 'I'm interested in xyz, you have PM regarding it' or something similar.
Many thanks,
Tom

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
It's hit and miss, I like it every now and then when people write in the thread as it's a free bump
But yes, i'm happy for it to go as it makes it a level playing field for everyone. So i'm voting yes, but make it exceptionally clear any missing info needs to be obtained via pm.

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
I say the creator posts only .And info can be added on the 3day bump or pm'ed to mods. Easy

I personally like it when people post on my sales threads as it gives me an early bump! :D

Likewise! Plus if I'm not around, and can't answer pms, people will know there's someone wanting it before them

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
creator only. so many people clutter up sale threads with pointless stuff. most annoying to me is when someone posts "mine" or "I'll take this" on a rif thread, then doesn't even have a defence, or offers so much below asking price its just plain stupid.
agreed I like the early bump, but then if everyone is the same with no posts on the threads it shouldn't make a difference to how far down the list it is as everyone should be following the 3 day rule

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
I voted no because you open a thread up all excited to see something for sale scroll, down scroll down ...and then you find its sold and often the mods dont see realise even when they say sold. (not in all cases of course)
keep it to the pms, then no information will be missed all updates on the sale can be clearly seen instead of having some moron say "Give you £50 for it" etc

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
That could still happen purcy, except you've wasted even more time by sending a PM thinking it is available ,only to be told it's sold anyway! Wastes everyones time

Re: Users Posting In The Classifieds
It helps to be honest if people can post. If I see a thread where someone has said. "I'll take this, PM sent" then I wont waste my time PM'ing them to find out its already sold, i'll just skip to the next. Also any questions about the listing won't be spam my inbox 20 times before I have had a chance to visit the forum again... When someone can see a question has been asked, it won't be asked again...
By turning off posting it will make selling weapons a lot more complicated and time consuming in my opinion. Dont get me wrong I completely understand the spam problem but it's a lesser evil than the grief turning posting off will cause buyers and sellers.
