  • A '+1' or an 'I second that' button?

Is there any way of implementing such a thing?

I would imagine that it would be very similar to the 'Thanks' button in terms of set up.

I was reading some threads earlier with 20 or 30 posts in them and the answer to the original question was given within 3 posts. I then spent the next 10 minutes reading the rest of the threads and there were no posts with new or differing information. I feel that this is just wasting my time. Now, my time isn't worth much at the moment as I just lay about all day playing on my PlayStation and occasionally revising (until I get a job and then go back to school), but I still feel my time is being wasted.

I also understand that someone is bound to say 'Well don't read the thread then!!! DUUHH! Hurr durr, hurr durr, I is teh intarwebz troll', but there is often new and exciting information in the later posts that we need to know.

(For those of you who don't know: Hurr durr is the sound that a stupid person makes when they laugh at something they percieve to be stupid. The thing they are laughing at is normally, however, logical, correct, well-thought out or a simple misunderstanding)

Would a '+1 button' help to reduce the sheer length of threads that require one word answers, or would it just be ignored?

I understand that if too many buttons are added the page would look clogged and untidy, but I feel that this is a good idea that would help this forum.

This was written fairly quickly, so I apologise if the syntax and grammar are somewhat poor.

Um, you mean exactly like the thanks button that already exists?

I thought the thanks button was a way for an OP to thank a user.
What I'm trying to say is: you would read a post that answers a question, and instead of writing the same thing in another post you would simply press the button, as a way to backup' another user. Is this what the thanks button is for too?

It may be a very poor idea, it was just a thought I had after reading a few threads.

              Heh sorry

              It's a fair suggestion.

But the thanks button isn't just a thanks, as people use it as a way to do what you have suggested above. ^

It's a way to like posts - You know, like all the Purcy jokes? :p

Oh, OK. I wasn't sure. I was after opinions of it as I found myself using the 'thanks' button as an 'I second that button', and because I was wading through the same answers again, and again, and again.

I think I actually thanked one of Purcy's posts the other day - I cried for hours. :D

The jokes about Purcy I always thank - and that's without ever meeting the bloke

(my apologies if you're reading this, Mr. Purcy...)

Im not sure why we have the thanks button. Its not really very useful. I mean everyone usually follows something up with a post anyway, saying thanks. But a +1 button would actually remove a lot of posts!

i dont need to say thanks as its the wrong word, it will reduce posts not needed.

                              I'm tempted to thank that post...really, very tempted...should I? :D

Edit: I'm even more tempted to thank that one!
