I realise that - but it is the best people have, and if they are that bothered then they should be willing to do it - rather than moan and make more work for the mods. I don't think it is fair for mods to have anymore on their plate.
Also I don't want to see the forums get restricted more and more. People are always moaning that there are too many rules on here - now they say the mods don't do enough. It has been said by ZeroIn before, and is still stated, that all sales are at the users risk - as simple as that in my mind. I think the forum does enough already.

There're probably some legal guidlines you have to follow if you're holding 3rd party personal data (security and suchlike) but then Z1 should know for sure (if no one else does)
is this a good idea then? if its allowed?
only reason i ask is you cant just stick something on ebay without registering can you?

Taylor I agree with you on the most part, and am mindfull of the backlash adding even stricter rules to the classifieds, but if there was a easy and free way of doing it then I would happy to inforce it

I agree with that - and if a thread like this produces such a way then it has been useful.

Yeh I understand - I apologise for coming across a bit strong, but I wasn't referring to any particular user when i said 'moan' but more the general moaners on here - yourself not included

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
I understand the negative nature around this, but I think the ppl that are contributing are trying to help keep the forum a fair and safe place to trade.
TBH its the main reason I visit the forum, and something I do enjoy.
And Fizzy, thanks for the volunteering but I'll pass! Happy to contibute tho.
Thats enough from me for the day.

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
If you're not sure about somebody, then pay by cheque. That way you have a name and address. If they cash the cheque, then your bank and, if needed, the police can trace it.

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
Its a wonderful idea but what is stopping the seller dealing by private message with someone ?? The 50 post idea has been done on many sites but does not stop scammers as they only have to make 50 posts which is easy, best thing is to protect your payment i think.
It will always be a risk on a site but as you will find out decent sellers will get well known and those who are scammers will burn there bridges and not be allowed to sell within the forum, also being such a small community they will become known on other forums too.
Unless you know the trader personally then i suggest paypal as a payment method due to the fact it can be traced and also you have legal standing too, cheque is too slow for most people but as pointed out can be traced as well or you have direct bank transfer which can be traced too.
Only my 2 pennies worth, but unless i can collect in person/have a friend collect/or have some idea of the seller it will be paypal/bank transfer all the way for me :D:D:D

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
I always try and send money as cash in the post. If you insure it its relatively low risk to you, and I mean, it always gives you an actual place to chase them up if they try and scam you.
But still.. we do need some better rules I think, and having a min. post count could help. I mean look at callofduty.. or whoever that scammer was that had like 4 accounts. It would make it a lot harder for them to keep making new ones and get straight into scamming.

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
ive sold a couple of guns on here and the only problem ive had was in the recent postage strike in bristol and it going missing in the post, i refunded the guy and all was happy (apart from trying to get royal mail to payup)
what i think might help is to make leaving feed back a manatory rule like on ebay, again it wont stop people trying it on but it should give you a bit of a guide to previous dealings with the seller
as in the case of the sale i mentioned above althought it went a bit wrong it was sorted ok fine and the buyer could put something like - gun didnt arrive due to problems with royal mail however full refund given with no problems
it would at least show that if things went wrong and they do with royal fail that the seller will be ok if things cock up
anyways thats just my thoughts, its not perfect but hope it helps

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
it may aslo help if
A. Users would keep contact details, every parcel has to be sent so everyone should have the address of the buyer/swapper, you should hold onto until trade is completed. it is amazing how many people post or PM asking if other users have, or Mods have contact details as they have deleted or thrown them away.
B. Use the Rate a Trader better, many users do not search before leaving feedback or dont check for exsisting threads, some users may use a capitals or or a slightly different version of the user name for instance Sci Fi Steve and sci fi steve, it is worth checking through alphabeticaly as we oftern get more than one thread for a trader, which could mean that important information is not seen by buyers as it is on the other thread (Feedback should be left under the exsact same name and text as the users name is on the board)

Re: classifieds! do we need some new rules?
2 issues from above.
If paypal find out that the item was a RIF or IF, the chances are that your claim will be turned down as using paypal to buy them is against T&Cs.
Having an address that you sent things to does not give you very much security. It could be a vacant property, a mates house or just some flats where the post is left vulnerable.
If the money goes into a bank (cheque or bank transfer) then at least the account can be investigated by the police if required. It's not perfect as you can get a false bank account, but it's safer than just trusting on one element alone.
