  • Ukara

Hello guys I'm selling my gun at the moment and it seems every person that wants to buy it doesn't have ukara.
I know it would be a pain but is there any way of controlling access on sales treads for people with no ukara
I think if I wasn't such a straight shooter then I could of just said sod it and sold it to a none ukara member
    (not my style)
Thanks for reading and I'm sure it has been brought up before but just needed to get it off my chest :-)

    Re: Ukara

As long as they have a valid defense (site membership or UKARA number) then you can sell to them obviously. But in terms of restricted access to thread content it's not something that seems to happen here. You can request Z-IN to check a UKARA number to see if it's legit though.

I hope by "no ukara" you mean no valid defense, otherwise it means you've most likely turned down alot of potential buyers who were perfectly legitimate to buy it!

        Re: Ukara

What the guy above said ... You don't need ukara - you need a defense.
I didn't bother with ukara for years because it costs at my site, I was quite happy with my defense as a regular skirmisher.
It used to really boil my pi*s when someone refused to sell to me because they were obsessed with ukara!

No I mean valid defence such as site membership and ofc ukara
It just seems increasing numbers of people are trying to buy a RIF with no defence at all

I think forums could do much more in educating people. Perhaps a semi-persistent pop-up - when someone first joins - alerting them to the VCRA and a brief overview on the Law. Alternatively, the forum could direct them to a page where they'd have to tick a check box saying that they are aware of the legalities involved. It's all about forum owners taking on a little responsibility (easy to do).

I think it's largely just people rushing into the hobby after discovering on the internet they can haz replicaz - very easy to 'go for it' and not be aware, I would think.

It should also warn of the heroin-like addiction.

I don't just blame the forum as one of the buyers I said once you have done your 3 visits and got ya membership we can Finnish the deal
                  To which he replied
I doubt I will have your gunna as I WILL be getting one soon

What are you meant to do with a mentality like that the forum guys have no chance. I guess it's down to the seller to check but a bit of forum help would be great

Most forums do that, some have lengthy rules at the top every sales page that members should click before jumping in to buy/sell, forums can't be responsible for buyers ignorance/sellers greed albeit some make the effort some don't,

Keep yourself in the right, if you can do that it's all good.

Yes, they do but who reads forum rules? Very few people do unless they are compelled to at least skim them via a 'gateway'. A pop-up or redirect is intrusive and forces people to at least be aware that getting stuff isn't so straight-forward.

                        Re: Ukara

i dont sell much but i prefer asking for ukara. that way i know its on a recorded database, rather than some site owner saying "xxxxxxxx is ok".
if somthing was to happen,it would be up to ME to prove i sold it within the law,and a database proves that, while some site owner might "forget" about having told me someone was ok or not.
ive just had one where i asked for a ukara number and was given a membership number,i was told to ring the site owner....when i pushed it,it turns out the interested party had only skirmished ONCE and paid membership.even with membership, how can that be classed as regular.so i pulled out of the deal.
i know some people on here will disagree with this, but im thinking about MY own position in airsoft,i was unhappy about somthing so i ended it.
ive even had some prospective buyers in the past....when asked for a ukara/membership number completely dispapear/refuse to answer emails.

                          Re: Ukara

It's certainly a difficult one to police. I mean, how would we know who has a valid defence or not? It would be an administrative headache. Not to mention there's the whole data protection act to consider if the forum was to hold personal information. We do tag under 18s (that we find out about) who've been trying to purchase RIF/IFs though

I could suggested putting together a list of names and their reasons for not having a valid defence and letting us know, but if it's not an age thing, how would we know when they do have a valid defence? Again, hard to manage.

I understand your frustrations as I had the same issue when trying to sell a UMP recently (which is why I prefer a face to face deal). I even had one guy get quite angry, asking how the **** was he supposed to become a regular skirmisher if I wouldn't sell him the UMP?

Good on you for saying no though, some people don't

                            Re: Ukara

I had an idea back when the VCR bill came into affect about running a totally free website/database that allowed site owners to register/admistrate users based on their own criteria etc. A seller could look up someone's details once given the member's code etc. Even had the database backend all built and running but never had time to finish it...
