kit guide section?
29 October, 2009, 18:36
is it possible to have a section for kit guides?, i know it ties in with the gear and loadouts section but there seems to be quite a few threads asking the same questions about what to wear for a certain loadout.

Re: kit guide section?
Would be a good idea... weve had a dozen PMC kit threads, a couple nam ones, a couple ww2 ones to name the ones I can remember.

I agree, subsections along the lines of modern, VN and WW2.

Re: kit guide section?
Great idea! There's been a few good ones, but the gear and loadouts section just buries them and people don't seem to be able to use the search facility. Could it be put as a subsection in G&L? That way it still keeps it together. Going to need to make sure it keeps on track though, as you don't want random DPM and SAAV stuff in there, which will inevitably happen

Re: kit guide section?
Or perhaps, people can write articles on how to make loadouts, and if the mods feel they are any good, post them in this new section?

Well, there're quite a few. Check out nice_guy_andy's modern Airbourne loadout in the pics thread for a really good modern loadout. Doesn't have to be common ones, but it does need to be fairly accurate I'd say

Re: kit guide section?
1. Users will want a guide for there loads out same issue as with "Pictures of your Guns"
2. Most repeat questions are asked by new users who do not use the search funtion let alone take time to read through to find a Sub Forum.
3. New users tend to ask questions anywhere, "General" "New Players" even "Accessories for Sale"
so same as 2. really
4. I think your post in Gear and load out are good and do the job and if it is a hot topic then they will stay on the first page, if not then they will die. natural selection . however if someone comes on and ask's by all means link it to your old thread.

Steve, I know creating many subsections will only fragment the forum and possibly confuse people (doesn't take much), but if points 2&3 are a reason for not having it, is there any point then in having
any
sub sections? Not sure what you mean with point 1, but just because a loadout isn't the flavour of the month, should it really be left to die? Would it eventually get removed? Could themed loadouts be stickied instead of creating a sub section, at least that way they're all listed together? If the powers that be needed someone to maintain it, I'm sure they'd get some volunteers

Re: kit guide section?
Other than Classified posts nothing is removed unless it is a rule issue. There is only one sub forum on here and that is the "guns for sale" which was split for obviouse reasons. by point 1. I mean someone asked for a sub forums for Armalites on the pictures of your guns thread which was declinded as everyone would then want one for there type of weapon. same with Kits. as for sticking I belive that you can only have so many "threads" stuck at one time, as I once tried to sticky all the rate a traders when we where loosing them (issue sorted now) and it would allow it.
I will approach the idea but in all honesty I don't see it happing
however I may sticky one locked thread with a list of loadouts ie: a basic giude to each one all in one thread stuck to the top of the gear thread, if users would like to send me the info or a link to a guide already on the forum

Re: kit guide section?
Fair play. As for point 1 and Armalites, I can totally see where you're coming from, but this has a broader scope, in that it should encompass any\all themed loadouts, where as the "Gear" section could just be for general use such as "which is the best chest rig", "need something to carry 8 mags", "which SAAV\holster" and suchlike.

Re: kit guide section?
I don't have the time atm to read all of what has been said, but a quick suggestion.
If you want a guide, why not create one, make it good enough, then ask nicely and if I think it is good enough then I will sticky it in the gear & loudouts section. That way we can end up with a small selection of good kit guides that people can use.
I wouldn't want too many stickies so things like MERC and PMC could be lumped together.
