I had my 18c on my vest and didnt like it much, belt holsters are the way forward (for me at least).

I think droplegs are the best, vest mounted it can get in the way of other items/magazines on your vest.
Belt mounted my rig always used to get in the way of drawing it.

Re: Holsters and where you put them

Depends on where i am playing...

Lots of buildings and stuff = assault rig = left hand SERPA (quick draw type as you put it) on my chest.
More woodland based = sneaky rig = SERPA on a thigh platform (for when i'm laying down / crawling through the undergrowth etc)

          Some people hate SERPAs
          Some hate belt holsters
          Some hate thigh holsters
          Some hate etc etc

In all honesty, all you are going to get here is peoples prefered opinions which will differ, wildly.

If you can, get to shop (call them up and make an appointment, so to speak) Let them know what gun you have and what your concerns are. Any decent shop will have a host of kit available for you to try out... and it saves you transporting a RIF too if they have in store what gun you have at home. It is a very personal thing and although guys like myself can give you pros and cons for what suits us, nobody on this forum can dictate what will be best for you.

And if nothiing else, it's a trip to a shop with plenty of gun porn for the day!

I've gone for a mole attached to my chest plate however plenty of people go for thigh holsters, all very much down to personal preference!

Re: Holsters and where you put them

I have three main loadouts that I play with, each with a different holster set up for a different reason.

For woodland I have an OD RRV vest with a Warrior molle holster down low and to the left on it ('cross draw' style). This is because in woodland I run and climb a lot and don't like the weight of anything pulling on my leg.

For urban I have a black RRV vest with almost the same set up but I actually have my pistol on my right leg on a drop leg Blackhawk serpa. This is because I tend to move more slowly, so the weight isn't a problem, and also because I actually use my pistol more in this environment and like the fact that if I drop my primary to let it sit on its single point sling across my chest it is completely out of the way of where I will be drawing and holstering my pistol.

Finally I have more of a 'police' set up for certain special games, in which I use my pistol as the primary. For this I don't have a bulky vest full of mags and other things so I just wear the pistol on a serpa on a tactical belt (along with pouches for magazines). This allows me to move fast and light. I actually still tend to put the holster in a 'cross draw' position when doing this though (a right handed holster sat almost on my left hip).

Re: Holsters and where you put them

I've run with a huge variety of holsters and positions over the years, but I've firmly settled on the belt. I find thigh holsters ALWAYS loosen up and swing around during play, meaning I crack my knee into my gun alot and have the gun move around alot. Chest holsters have been less troublesome but I've found slightly slower draws. SERPA holsters are brillaint but fitting one gun can be an issue for those of you who have more than one. I've just found that a belt offers the most comfort mixed with the easiest and quickest draw. That said, I've just got my hands on a lovely shoulder holster, will have to let you know how it works!

I'm a belt 1st then if I carry a 2nd shoulder holster .But you need a good quality one as cheap shoulder holsters are fairly rubbish on the whole .The falco roto shoulder holster I have for my python is fantastic.

Re: Holsters and where you put them

Following on from Aeviv, it is worth poiting out that I have four different serpa holsters because they are specific to each gun. I'm a pistol lover, so I like to rotate mine, but if you don't want to invest in all that then clearly a one holster fits all approach is the way to go. I do like my Warrior molle holster on my vest as it will take pretty much all medium sized pistols quite comfortably.

Re: Holsters and where you put them

I had my glock 19 in a serpa on my PC for one game and didn't like it at all. Just got in the way. I bought the serpa drop leg platform and am massively impressed with the comfort and lack of movement. I have had drop legs in the past that just swung around everywhere no matter how tight i had them.

The good thing about holsters such as the serpa is the versatility of them. I have 2 belt loops, a Molle attachment and the drop leg. Te holster just screws to any one of them so i can have what ever suits me at the time.

you can pick them up quite cheap second hand. mine cost me in total about £35 for all the different bits and is all genuine balckhawk.

Re: Holsters and where you put them

For my HFC Glock 17 I have a genuine Blackhawk Serpa Glock 17 holster. I mount that to either my plate carrier, drop leg platform, or just to my belt, depending on my loadout or kit requirements. If I'm running light, it's on my belt, and if I'm running a full plate carrier etc it either mounts on my chest, or I use the drop leg.

I also have a shoulder holster, though I use that for my other pistols.

I have a Flyye Molle Holster, I've run it in a few different positions, currently it sits on my chest rig as its easy to grab, I'm thinking of getting a 90 degree adapter and sticking it on my chest though.
