Czech M53 helmet, help needed.

I got a Czech M53 helmet a couple of weeks ago, and I can't get the 2 metal band/clip things on the back of the liner to open up so I can make it bigger so that it will fit, any help would be appreciated, pictures, links to web sites, anything really.

As long as I remember it was easy to do, so yours is probably fucked, if I was you I rip that out and replace it with something more comfy, trust me after 1 day your head is going to hurt proper I know my did
