  • The Search For A Pair Of Gloves...

I don't usually post a thread like this, but maybe someone here can help.

I'm looking for a nice pair of gloves to send out to a relative if Afghan. Oakley SI Assault Gloves sprang to mind (still in love with my pair). The problem is, I'm having a little trouble finding a pair.
If anyone can suggest a more practical set of gloves that are available in the UK, I would be most grateful.

I don't profess to being a military expert (wel maybe compared to an average member of the public, but not compared to many on here), not have I ever been to Afganistan. However I own a pair of Hatch Hard Knuckle Operator Gloves which are very good, and come in tan. They are made of a load of different materials, but are comfy, hard wearing, and have great dexterity. Cost a fair bit though, since they will set you back £55.

What regiments he in? I only ask as this will matter a great deal, as there are a lot of things to consider for gloves for the 'stan. However see if you can find a pair of nomex pilots gloves on a reputable auction site. I have a pair and they are absolutely shit hot. Would recommend them to anyone.

The RAF Reg, unlikely to see a great deal of action, I admit. Still, if I can help him out, you know?

hello mate may i recomend blackhawk solag gloves (special operators light assult gloves). they will be perfect as they are the gloves that most of my mates have bought for use in 'stan and they all raf reg.

failing that may i suggest you simply ask him. as soon as he gets on the ground out there he is bound to wish he had this and that, or he will have seen bob with this gucci peice of kit and now he wants one and cant get it out there. thats what most of my mates have found and asked me to send certain stuff out to them once they are there, even on second tours

The SI Assault gloves are in stock at MM UK in Tan... £26.95. Not bad seeing as elsewhere they are on offer for around the £40 mark

Whichever the new gloves are on a certain Tactical site in the UK if you go on militaryphotos.net theres a sticky thread dedicated to just about every item of gear you can imagine!

Seem to recall the gloves thread concluded the flight gloves were the best to get hold of because they were cheap and did they job, as the amount of abuse they'll get in Afgahnistan will shred any glove to peices...

worth taking a look on the thread yourself but hope this helps a bit :-).

Have you thought about looking on the US sites?

Most US military retailers will post free to their guys posted in Afghan, may be you can persuade them to do the same for you.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions folks!
I've ordered the Oakleys from a place in the UK that has BFPO shipping. I'll ask him how they're getting on, and if they are no good I'll send some SOLAGs or Hatch Operators. All this browsing makes me want some new gloves...
                        Thanks again
(Orange, that thread was very interesting, if a tad repetitive. Mechanix seem to be pumping out some decent stuff)
