Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!
13 February, 2010, 12:16
Hey guys..
I'm having problems with getting a radio and throat mic (or similar) set up which works.
I've had either the radio not being received by my other friends radios, or the throat mic not working all the time with the radio.
So can anyone recommend a set up which 100% works? Also the links to where I can buy them. I'm looking at about £100 total for the 2, unless ones which work 100% are more then that.
Any advice would help!! :D
Cheers,
Typhus

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!!!
The majority Throat mics and headsets tend only to work with either
Kenwood or motorola
PMR's.
Sorry, I think i've misread your post. Ignore

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!!!
My friends all have their own ones, different makes, some Ive never heard of, but they all work together on the same channels.
You guys able to post some recommendations with links to where I can buy them from?
Thanks!

I presume they're just using normal PMRs though?

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!!!
They'll be PMRs then (Private Mobile Radio -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Mobile_Radio
). For ease of support (in terms of how it works and getting accesories) I'd recommend a Motorola Talkabout of some sort. Maybe a second hand Motorola XTN446 or it's replacement, if you fancy an all singing all dancing one.

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!
Not sure if you can still get them, but I used to use a Firefox with my old Motorola, it seemed pretty good. Does it have to be a throat mic? I found the Cavalvy Elite II headset much better.

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!
Can anyone tell me if the old British Army personal radio is ok for Airsoft, i know you can buy them on ebay cos i have seen loads of them , also have seen the current prr radio that is used, someone said that the British Army would come looking for you(which i cant believe for an minute). I have probably missed something please tell me if i have, but i would think these would be ideal for Airsoft, if they were good enough for the MoD for all those years they should be good enough for us, shouldnt they?

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!
Not sure what you mean by old british army personal radios, but the current ones that are on issue made by marconi are availible on ebay. These tend to come without battery covers, dials and antenna, however i have seen complete units sell but they are quite pricey. In an airsoft situation these are good as squad radios over short line of sight distance. However they are pretty crap at long range or when you have obstructions, buildings, hills etc between the senders. However at short range the send and receive clarity are very good. The prob is that unless you have a team that are all using these, you will not be able to communicate very easily with anyone else on PMR which is the mainstay in airsoft, i beleive that you can program them to PMR channels but i am not sure how, or how easy it is to do this. There are now clones availible from china, i am yet to try one but they are said to be 100% compatible with the issue ones ? If anyone can clarify this then that would be great and as what the qaulity is like ? If they were any good at the price of $100 dollars or there abouts, they would make pretty good squad level comms.

Re: Recommendations for Radio Gear-HELP!
Am in a similar position myself of looking to invest in comms kit but the choice is immense. Rang a local company who specialise in two way radios, (Wildtalk if you want to google them) nice website and very helpful on the phone, and they suggested the Motorola TLKR-T7. Any thoughts from the radio shack aficienado's among you?
