Case Foam
25 March, 2009, 16:37
Hey guys,
Whats the best and most secure foam you can get for a gun case?
I wanna mould my SA80 into, like in the pic here:
http://zeroin.co.uk/showthread.php?p=109677#post109677
But i don't wanna spend silly money on it if that makes sense.
Thoughts?

It's a tad lighter (in shade) than Peli gun case foam but it's cheap as chips and you can get it cut to any size.

Re: Case Foam
Thanks mate, it is cheap! Is it good for holding stuff in place and not that usualy loose easy tear foam you get in most new cases?

Re: Case Foam
I use it as my replacement foam. It's more than good enough for gun cases.
Here's some with the efoam stuff:

That looks very nice indeed, how do you get the shape cut in so well? i had some before and made a right pigs ear of it when it came to the cutting.

Re: Case Foam
laser cutter would do that job very very well, or you can use a hot wire cutter which is simple to build, failing that a skilled hand with a kitchen knife is ok!
Hot wire cutter:
Get a strip of Nickle-chrome wire (guitar strings work well (not nylon ones!!)), and a battery (one of those 4.5v chunky ones)
Rig up something to hold the wire taught and don't touch it, hook each end to the battery. The wire soon heats up and will cut through foam literally like a hot knife through butter.

Long
blades. Peli actually recommend the use of an electric carving knife. I use:
