  • soviet ww2 load out...

thinking of doing one as i'm seriously tempted by a hexagon PPsh-41 at the mo (it will also sort my nam load out too.

i've already got a late 40's early 50's soviet officers cap.

do you think i'd get away with british light weights and a shirt of the same colour and then a brown wool trench coat, as i've googled about a bit and its seriously rare, or expensive.

only thing i'd deffinetly like to get would be the hight knee boots.

any have a ww2 soviet kit, webbing as well looks hard to come by...

any help, maybe from some of the WW2 airsofters.

    cheers

Try there (not a link to an airsoft retailer, so I believe I'm within the rules?) just remove the space between the w's. Also Comrades in Arms forum is a great source for info, as it is a dedicated WW2 forum covering most nationalities.

Just posted up a pic of me in WW2 soviet rifleman summer uniform on the pics of your gear page, http://www.zeroin.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3008&page=54. The Sharovari trousers can still be had on a well known auction site for £12, they only have up to 32 waist but you can do a bit of alteration (I havent been a size 32 since I was 18, sigh). The gymnastiorka shirts are rather more expensive, I had to get mine from said auction site, shipped from Hong Kong. The Sapogi boots are quite difficult to find in the UK, but as Ghost said theres a couple of Russian/Ukrainian sites that sell them, plus Trident militaria in the States. Pilotkas are fairly cheap and easy to get hold of, but again tend to come in small sizes, I ordered mine as I needed a size 60cm. I'd second Ghosts recomendation of Comrades in Arms as a good source of info. And I love my PPSh41

        what about webbing mate?

i'm buying a single drum mag pouche at the mo on that well known auction site, it'll fulfil my rpk drum mag storage too.

        you have a ppsh?

i'm going to phone the guys who sell it now regarding mags, can't find anywhere online selling them yet.

theres talk of an mp40 adapter, but thats just wrong, i want more drums or the huge banana mags, none of this fascist crap.

that said, its much easier to get german ww2, might go eastern front german with ppsh, but could i like with myself... only time would tell.

          Re: soviet ww2 load out...

I use a post war Czech gasmask bag to carry stuff, its not too far off the original. The Russians soon stopped using Y straps, so infantrymans webbing is whatever you hang on your belt, waterbottle, mag pouch etc. Both of which can still be bought pretty cheap . Havent seen any spare mags for sale for the PPsh yet, thought I might have a go at making one from an original drum mag.

To be honest theres not a lot of difference in the cost of a German or Russian uniform, theres a lot less insignia to sew on the Russian one

            Re: soviet ww2 load out...

There is a seller called Koliya1985 on a previously mentioned auction site that produces some quite nice Gymnasterka and sharovari along with other items at reasonable prices.

Webbing wise a plain brown leather belt with simple single pronged buckle will do to start. As Schaffer says, you don't need much. An ammo pouch, canteen and gas mask bag will suffice.

I have a few bits for sale if you're interested. I have a couple of Greatcoats (size 52-4 /42"), canteen + cover, rain cape, pilotkas (smaller sizes), back packs and mess tins. Really need to get around to putting up a for sale thread here! Would be able to offer you more if my order from Front of Russia ever turns up. I don't recommend ordering from there!

Oh and btw Ppsh drum mag pouches don't fit RPK mags.

                lol no.

i've found a place that does the m35 for $50 plus postage, but tbh i don't think i'll go the ww2 route, i toyed with the idea of a ppsh, i'd love one, but i'm getting my T56. plus no one does ww2 at my local... that said no one does soviet either tbh, but i'll stick out less in modern russian/soviet rather than 1943 soviet conscrpit.

That would be the exact reason why I would do it personally, I like to stand out from the crowd. Nobody at my local site does Soviet and only a few do WW2 so it feels great to be doing something different. Even if most people have a clue what impression I'm wearing half the time.... I've had people think my Heer kit is SS, my Soviet Afghanistan kit is WW2 and no clue as to what my Afika Korp kit is!
