Mag pouches- open top or closed?
21 January, 2014, 13:28
I'm looking at the warrior Ricas compact and see there's two versions of the mag pouches.
Which would you buy ? And why
Do you prefer clean mags or quick mag change.

Re: Mag pouches- open top or closed?
I used to use closed top mags and switched to the open 'shingle' style. Never looked back. Long as you put your mags with the top facing down, your mags will be fine, and it saves any annoying velcro sounds when trying to stay stealthy and change mags at the same time!

Down to personal choice really. We can't decide that for you!

rain + dirt + mags = you're gunna have a bad time
hot + dusty + mags = you're gunna have a bad time
best to play it safe and keep it closed

Re: Mag pouches- open top or closed?
I use closed tops on my OD vest, and open top quick-change type on my CB plate carrier. Only used the OD one so far, and the velcro is a pain. Looking forward to using my open tops in my plate carrier on Sunday.

I use both on the same rig . But with closed top ones you can just tuck the top of a closed top one behind the mag and you have an open top one.

Re: Mag pouches- open top or closed?
I'm going to end up with both on my "final" rifle rig (will be a 6094) the kangaroo open pouch and a M4 flap for the extra carrying capacity. May end up running a single fast mag on the belt.

Re: Mag pouches- open top or closed?
I have two fast mags for rapid reloads, and four open tops with an elastic bungie to retain the mags. If you keep your mags facing downwards rain, dust etc will affect them no more than in a closed mag pouch.
