Comms
19 June, 2014, 19:51
Ok, I have searched, but after a lot of waffle, not substantial answer. Am after a airsoft compatible radio. I say airsoft, what I mean is that it is compatible with all the other radios people use on sites. I know there are ones which look the real deal, I also know ones which don't but do the same things.
What Im after is peoples thoughts/ experiences and radio recommendations please.
An yes, the two cans with string work, but find they get caught up in the trees

Re: Comms
Most people I know run PMR 446 radios, they are pretty much all compatable with each other, our team run a mixture of different makes and models with varying degress of success, but in reality they all have limitations so I have never invested heavily cost wise, I personally have a set of Binatone cheap ones and a set of Motorola slightly better ones, but none of them cost more than £70 for 2

Re: Comms
Yep, as JLG says, just Google PMR 446 radios. In terms of compatibility with accessories, you can't go wrong with Motorola, but there are other (cheaper) alternatives.
If you want to splash the cash, to look more flash, have a look at the Motorola XTNiD. It's got more features than you probably need though.

As long as a tech biff like me can press to talk, be able to find the correct adaptor for my real steel Sordins I left with, then peachy. It the Motorola XTNID fairly easy to use / set up?

Sordins complicate things.
You're going to need an amplified PTT, there's several companies that make them but alas, zero in aren't one of them. Also not cheap, you're looking at probably £80+VAT for the PTT alone!

Re: Comms
May just go down the cheap PTT option and go for the single piece ear piece as my sordens being very good, am not going for the milsim junkie route, just ammo water and lightest comms options.

Re: Comms
If you want spend more you can for the ones that look like the real deal I.E: TRI Falcon PRC 152
They are programmable to any frequency..you can wiki the pmr 446 frequencies and just tap them in and on the plus side it looks awesome and you can use real headsets and extras on it..
Assumption is the mother of F*&% Ups!

Re: Comms
The TRI PRC152 doesn't work with real headsets, needs heavy modification to fit an amplifier for use with dynamic mics.

Re: Comms
The TRI PRC152 looks the mutts nuts but a bit to milsim for me, am looking towards a Motorola XTNID as can get for £85 new, and a Airsoft Wireless Ptt Radio Button Ztactical Z Sordins Motorola 2 Way 2 Pin Used In Conjunction With A Airsoft Z Tactical Evo Headset Mic Bowman Helmet Radio Jaw Bone Conduction Ear. it all seems to be compatible. I don't want to go down the route of having to program freqs in to radios, am more of a plug play kind of guy.

Re: Comms
I used an XTNID with my real deal Sordins, but had massive impedance issues, even with an amplified Nexus PTT. Complete pain the arse.
Sadly to say, if you run real Sordins, youre going to have to look at a higher end of radio. The XTNID is fine, but youll need to get it modded. Cant link on here, but there are a few places in the UK that will do it for you. Best thing to do is mail them your XTNID and Sordins and then pay for the PTT and the service costs. Theyl mail you back a fully tested functioning comms setup.
I run dual iCom radios now with real deal Sordins. Looking at making the jump to Comtacs though.
