  • Does Such A Pouch Exist?

I have my DCS Rig, but at the moment I only ever wear it for CQB. When I play CQB at the minute its only ever my MP5.

What Id love, is to have all 6-7 mags on the front, as they're so slim, they should all fit with ease. However, no one makes decent MP5 pouches, that don't have a lot of faff on them as well. Id also like to not have to change the pouches every 5 minutes if I want to switch it up. So it occurred to me...

Has anyone made a 6-8 slot long pouch, in a single style, that has an elasticated front, and can fit any number of different mags.

If not, why not, as they would probably sell like hot cakes, especially for those who have both 7.62 and 5.56 rifles to themselves!

There are a few companies that will make pouches to your requirements so anything is possible

You could just use BFM M4 pouches if you plan to use AK mags as the 7.62 mags. You would easily be able to fit 2 MP5 mags in them each.

I currently use double stacked M4 pouches with 2 in each, and it works, but its a faff when under fire, and if you have 1 magazine in there already, sliding another in requires a lot of looking! Just having a long kangaroo style pouch would be much easier

No one makes exactly what you are suggesting. The closest would be either several BFG pouches or a 6094 with the kangaroo pouch open.

The reason that you can't get exactly what you are asking for is that retention wise one big long bit of elastic would be pretty pants for anything in the middle with mags either side.

Are you thinking of a great big BFG TenSpeed? Like 6 PALS columns wide? That definitely wouldn't hold on to magazines, especially real ones full of ammo that require lots of pressure to retain. If it were that simple then I'm sure one of the many many gear companies would've done it by now. Folks who have 556x45, 762x39 and 762x51 rifles just buy TACOs.

Might be worth trying some TACOs, see how they fit your loadout with the system of 2 MP5 mags per pouch. Possibly some of the different TenSpeeds that BFG make could work, should be able to rock empty mags back in there easily with some practice and repetition of drills. It's rather hard to think of a single pouch design that'll function with magazines that vary so massively in size, you just don't see that done in the real world, your current setup is probably one of the best options.

As mentioned, a PC like a 6094 with a kangaroo pouch might work, you can leave normal mag pouches on the PALS at the front then stash a bunch of MP5 mags in the kangaroo with small velcro patches on them for added retention. Or go the other way around and have an kangaroo insert for rifle mags and put SMG pouches on the front. Personally I'd sell the DCS and buy Velocity low-vis carrier or an LBX Armatus PC then have 2 front panels; one for SMG one for Rifle, takes a matter of maybe 20 seconds to swap configurations then whenever you feel like it.

Flicking through an old issue of Ai yesterday I'm sure I saw Blue Fore Gear MP7 rig, which sounds like exactly what you'll need.

Just looked on a retailer specialising in 'tactical kit' and they have the BFG MP7 pouches. Not the cheapest at £30 for a triple but I'm betting they're worth every penny.

Will look into these options, ta. Would prefer a pouch rather than another rig though!

I'm not sure why an elastic pouch would be no good full of mags? Make it tight enough in sure it'd be fine. I don't like my mags to be needing a big tank to get out. Slip in and slip out is how I like them

The ones near the edge would be fine, but ones in the middle would move a lot as the mags either side are keeping the elastic from pulling tight on the mags in between.

My advice is either SR25 BFG mag pouches that will fit 1x SR25/M14 or 1x M4/AK or 2x MP5/SMG mags or some 7.62 Taco's that will do much the same.

It might be fine, but emphasis on the word full. If you make the material tight enough such that it'll reliably retain (for example) 6 MP5 mags then it'll go slack once you take out even 1 magazine; all the rest will fall to the middle/to the side at an angle (depending where you took the first mag from) then you'll lose all said retention and stuff will be rattling around and start falling out.

The reason the BFG TenSpeeds that hold multiple mags work is because there's lines of stitching between each storage slot. They make a lot of double/triple pouches for everything from SMGs up to HK417 as well as chest rigs as shown above that'll hold 6+ mags all in one line using one piece of elastic (as per your idea), but the columns of stitching in-between each slot are essential to the design, you simply would't get anywhere near enough tension without that. They've been making that sort of gear for a few years now and it would save them a fortune in machine time not putting in all that extra thread between pouches so they'd do it if they could, but as I say it really is a necessity for the system to function.

I've got a pair of the BFG pouches, and although they're not the MP5 ones (I use the HK417 ones for G36 mags) they are quite possibly some of the best bits of gear I own.

Fit a Mayflower Swift Clip system to your carrier, then get two BFG Ten Speed chest rigs (theyre compatible). If you get two 7.62 ones, you can sew directly up the middle of each pouch area on one of them and youll get 8 MP5 mags in. The other will take your AK mags and still hold M4 mags fine. Two second job to swap them between games, just run your more permanent kit further round the cummerbund.

Dont know how well you can see it in this pic, (its the only one i have of my old Mayflower) but you can sort of get the idea from it:

Yes. That. I assume that's the ten speed pouch, looks very similar.

I will probably go for one of those. The separated sections probably are a good idea in the end!
