Propane adaptor
18 June, 2010, 19:37
Hello,
I have an AI Propane adaptor, and a bottle of propane.
However, I can not get the propane from the bottle, to my magazine.
The tank works, because I can get gas out by pressing the valve, but when I screw on the adaptor, nothing happens.
I can only think that either there are two similar yet different propane fittings, or i have a malformed adaptor/tank.

Re: Propane adaptor
Look down the propane opening, is there anything protruding that could be in the way?
And
Take off the adapter and look through it, you should see daylight - if not then you have a blockage. Look from the side - the base nozzle (the bit that goes into the can) should be protruding about 5-6mm. Push the fill side of the nozzle down, look into the base as you do this and see what happens.
And what brand of propane are you using?

Re: Propane adaptor
Ah,
looks
like the top of the propane tank you screw on to is a few MM too tall. Hard to tell from the scale, best bet is to get hold of Coleman US style cartridge, argos has them I believe.
I've never seen that brand of tank before, so I'm not sure. Your adapter looks OK.

Re: Propane adaptor
If the nozzle isn't moving down at all when you push it, your problem is there. Is this with it attached or unattached (or both)?

both. although i can feel it depressing the fill valve when i put it in the mag.
it not the mag, as the mag is fine with abbey 134a.
any way to "force" it down? without taking a hammer to it?

Re: Propane adaptor
Try pushing it really hard until you think you might break it (with it unattached), try and get it moving - it's probably just jammed itself in badly somehow. If you can't get the nozzle to move downwards, (it should have about 1cm of movement) send it back to the retailer for a replacement.

Re: Propane adaptor
Yea, take it off the tank, turn it upside down and press it on your mousemat (stop it from slipping on a hard table surface) or your leg. Don't apply sudden force, apply a large force slowly (put your weight behind it).

You know what mate, after a little bit of "persuasion" and a loud CLICK, I got the sweet smell of propane.
I love you
