  • Phrase for patch

    Hello lads!
    I talked to LtPurcy about designing a patch for my loadout. I'd like to have some sort of Latin phrase added to it, but my Latin is kindda rusty, so help would be appreciated.

    I liked these three:

    1. Acta non verba - Deeds not words
    2. Ad astra per aspera - to the stars through difficulty
    3. Potius mori quam foedari - Death before dishonour

    But any suggestions would be awesome! :D
    Si vis pacem para bellum

      My good man, why do you bandy words like this? You are wasting time...Words are potent in debate, deeds in war decide your fate. Then don't go on piling up the words, but fight!

                      I had a tattoo done in latin across my back. I cant be bothered to google it, but it translates as:
                      Courage is moving toward danger with no escape. My courage will guide me.

                      I like a few of the ones above, might have to get down to my local tattoo shop!

                        That is SICK. I've always wanted a tattoo with some Latin in it. Pic?

                          Re: Phrase for patch

                          The motto for an old school of mine was:

                          Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori - It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country

                          probably a little OTT for airsoft but its still a pretty cool.

                          A friend of mine taught me a different version which will deffinatly be too long

                          Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori, sed dulcius pro patria vivere, et dulcissimum pro patria bibere. Ergo, bibamus pro salute patriae
                          -
                          It is sweet and right to die for the homeland, but it is sweeter to live for the homeland, and the sweetest to drink for it. Therefore, let us drink to the health of the homeland

                          Used to be able to say that from memory, but that was a few years back now so I had to look it up again

                            There's an old war poem of the same name that makes for a good but sad read. It's written by a former soldier. Very heartfelt but enough to put you off getting the phrase put on a patch I think. I personally see that to be poor taste for an airsoft loadout but each to their own I suppose. That's just my humble view

                              True. It was an old Roman saying scorned by Wilfred Owen in his very dark war poem. It would certainly deter me from putting it on a patch:

                              Dulce et Decorum est

                              Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
                              Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
                              Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
                              And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
                              Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
                              But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
                              Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
                              Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.
                              Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling,
                              Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
                              But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
                              And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime . . .
                              Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
                              As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
                              In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
                              He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.
                              If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
                              Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
                              And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
                              His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
                              If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
                              Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
                              Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
                              Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
                              My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
                              To children ardent for some desperate glory,
                              The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
                              Pro patria mori.
