Help with a current Press Photographer loadout
14 August, 2011, 23:36
Hi,
Im playing a weekender next month and im doing the photography. Instead of a hivis they have written me in as a press photographer.
Does anyone know any of the rules or requirements for this as I want to look as close to the real thing as I can. Im not sure if its still blue vest and helemt with press on?
Thanks

Pretty much. Google images is your friend for something like this.
If I was you, I'd expect to get shot a LOT. People will see movement and no hi-viz, so you'll get lit-up plenty!
The film War Photographer might also give you some ideas:

Re: Help with a current Press Photographer loadout
Yeah I have googled but there is such a mix of photos. Black vests, blue vests, military pate carriers, helmets, no helmets. I'm trying to do right buy the game.
As for getting shot that's fine. I have got shot plenty wearing a hi vis so I'm sure I will get shot a million times more! Lol!
Cheers

Just watch that your camera lens doesn't get shot. That could be an expensive accident.

Depends, what kind of press/combat zone are we talking about?
Are we talking full blown war reporter coming live from the streets of Baghdad? Or local ITV crew at a bank hiest in Middlesbrough?

Lots of beige rohan kit, multi pocket vests, and be right in peoples faces at crucial times. That last bit is just a personal one from my own experience!!!

Lol! I have a balistic lens filter so it will be fine.
Current Afgan type embedded in with a Brit/US troops on patrols.
Must state I am only a photographer not a reporter.

I could blag one of these vests. But would they wear the armour underneath it or over and just carry a bag?

Beige cargo trousers, beige or cream short sleeve shirt, blue PRESS body armour and helmet. Job done.

You could go the James Woods from Salvador route. That look is a very cool one.

Re: Help with a current Press Photographer loadout
I was wearing the tan cargo trousers at the beginning of the day but tore the crotch open diving into cover during an ambush...
White shirt
Tan trousers
British CBA armour vest in navy blue, with "PRESS" stencilled on the front and back in white
Helmet optional, again, with "PRESS" markings
