  • Head or weapon flashlight?

I am going to a all night milsim event and was wondering what would be better a head torch or weapon light, or even both(just for over kill)?

    Any suggestions guys (and girls)?

I wouldn't recommend a head torch, you'll just get opened up on from the start if have it constantly on. Plus too much hassle to keep turing on and off -distracting you!

Weapon mounted lights provide light only when it's needed, most, if not all have pressure pads allowing for easy use!

Just beware, as soon as it goes on though, you'll light yourself up like blackpool tower at xmas, so use wisely!

Hmmmm makes sense. I would love to get some NVGs but my budget won't stretch nearly that far. I was thinking of getting both, weapon light for engagements and head light (with red filter) for talking to people and eating, briefings......etc.

good thing about torches with pressure switch or a click switch etc on a weapon are that you can blind the enemy if they are very bright - and ruin their natural night vision

and the red filtered light is good for when in an OP for example

'Lamping' people with a powerful torch is a dangerous thing to do.
At any site, be it your local wood or a Army FIBUA site, there are trip hazards and suddemly loosing you natural night vision, or being suddenly blinded by the equivelant of a rifle mounted anti aircraft light is dangerous.
I use a very low output torch, has enough power and range to pick out an emeny, without leaving them blinded. Also means that your team mates don't get blinded at the same time.
Best thing for just sitting around chatting are a few Cyloums (glow sticks). These are a cheap throw away option, as you can buy cheap from £1 shops.

I have about a million MOD glow sticks because one of my scout's (Im a leader) dad is a QSM for the army and gave us a ton of stuff that he needed to get rid of.

Yeah Ratty, speaking as the former owner of a 1000 lumens Cree weaponlight, bright torches are NOT the peoples friend.

Im getting one of the new G+P PEQ box laser/torch combos, quite excited bout it gonna stick an extra torch with a red filter on as well for keepin it subtle too.

A petzl is good to have on your helmet for chatting to people, setting up camp etc but not shooting

Indeed. Some, like my Petzl Tac Tikka have brightness settings and a red filter, making it useful for reading maps and briefings as well.

we could start using noise weapons........make the enemy drop their guns as they scream n cover their ears

be careful with reading a map with coloured filters.....if its an OS map using the red filter.....the contour lines will disaper! a normal torch with a small hole in the centre for reading maps then you don't lose contour lines!

I find that the best thing to do on a night game (in and urban environment) is to not use a torch at all until you storm a building then when you do lamp them and get the job done!

It also makes team identification easier due to the fact when its dark and your attacking a buidlding your nerves are on edge and 9/10 times there will be a friendly fire incident if there is no lighting use at all.

I hear what ratty says about trip hazards etc but iv been playing like that for the best part of a year and have never fell over anything *touches wood*

I have the G&P m500 flash light and handgaurd plus the G&G m500 with Ris attachment and they are great. reviews say the battery life is only 40mins but mine has never ran out

                              Well I use three...

I have a King Arms Mounted M3 Torch on the Rifle / SMG etc, I use a Real Surefire L4 hand torch for pistol and knife work which is placed in my 5.11 concealment vest or my warrior vest (Depends on loadout) and if I am using my helmet I use a petzl light with a red filter in it for low light hand work like de-activation of traps or objectives etc...
